Why Brett Favre Should Not Become A Jet

Friday, July 25th, 2008

When Jets Head Coach Eric Mangini was asked about possibly receiving Brett Favre in a trade, his eyes lit up. But minutes later the Jets third year head coach did his normal dance around the question, saying that all talks about player personnel are internal. Mangini also stated that he was happy with QB’s Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens.

And Guess what readers (of this brand new blog), I actually agree for the first time with Mangini.

Nothing against Brett Favre (who will be in Canton sooner than the Jets in a Super Bowl), but his services are not needed in New York. If this ESPN report about the Jets talking to Green Bay is true, it would totally go against the plan put in place by the Jets front office as well as spelling the end of Pennington’s Jets career.

With Pennington now having two healthy legs and Kellen Clemens showing progress after each game last season, it’s not worth the price to take on Favre and the media circus that surrounds him. Also the additions of OL’s Alan Faneca and Damien Woody should really help an offense that was at the bottom of the league last season.

With Favre every off-season is a drama, which the Jets do not need any part in. They spent tons of money and brought in players who fit the system that they play (Kris Jenkins, Calvin Pace and the drafting of Vernon Gholston.

If Gang Green knows what best them, they will stay away from Favre and let backup punter Joe Smith continue to don jersey number 4!
