‘War Machine’ Activated

Friday, December 9th, 2011

Florham Park, N.J.- One of the coolest things in sports is the clever and fun nicknames we give to the athletes. Whether it’s the perfect match of “Sweetness,” to describe the way Walter Payton ran the ball or the so crazy it’s awesome, as is the case with LSU’s dynamic cornerback/kick return Tyrann Mathieu aka the ‘Honey Badger,’ us sports fans love us a great nickname.

On the Jets you have a bunch of different nicknames, the simple ‘LT’ for Ladainian Tomlinson, Brandon Moore lovingly referred to as ‘Meat,’ ‘Revis Island,’ the ‘Sanchize,’ and hell even Nick Mangold held a fan voting contest to give his beard a nickname (Mjolnir, the name of Thor’s hammer won). But none of these nicknames jump out to smack you in the face with pure awesomeness the second the words bounce off your eardrums like the ‘War Machine.’ (more…)

A Look to the Road Ahead

Wednesday, December 7th, 2011

Florham Park, N.J.- Since the devastating loss to the Denver Broncos the talk around this team has been about the need for the Jets to win the rest of their remaining games. With the first two games down, marked in the win column, the Jets just have four more games to put away before they can feel comfortable that they have secured a playoff birth. But even that’s not a guarantee at this point.

Right now, with four weeks remaining, there are four teams that have essentially wrapped up playoff spots (Texans, Ravens, Patriots and Steelers) with a record of 9-3 and five teams (Jets, Titans, Bengals, Raiders and Broncos) tied for the final playoff spot at 7-5. The Jets would lose in a tiebreaker scenario with the Broncos and the Raiders, but the good news is they only have to finish with a better record than one of those teams because one is likely to win the division (crazy as it seemed a few weeks ago I’m guessing it’s the Broncos) leaving the other to fight for the Wildcard. Victory Monday

Monday, December 5th, 2011

Florham Park, N.J.- “I’m gonna tell you what. If I look at these stats and there were no sacks given up we will have a ‘Victory Monday’… No sacks.” – (c) Rex Ryan

Monday’s are the worst. No one likes Monday’s, it’s not just Garfield. But ‘Victory Monday’s are different. ‘Victory Monday’ stands in stark contrast of a regular Monday as a ‘Victory Monday’ is an absolute delight. Fans wake up with a little extra pep in their step. That first sip of coffee tastes ever so sweet. That normal Monday morning haze that usually clouds your brain has evaporated and you begin to look forward to wasting the majority of your work day reading about how your favorite team was able to pull off the big win yesterday.

For the players it’s a chance to relax, both mentally and physically, for two days before they have to get back at it, diving head first into the next week’s game plan. For a team in the position the Jets are, it’s not only a perfect way, it’s the only way to start the week. Relax, regroup then refocus because they might need the next four Monday’s to be ‘Victory Monday’ or they could be in danger of missing the playoffs. (more…)
