Calibrating Expectations

Saturday, November 30th, 2013

Florham Park, NJ- Expectations and hope are two similar, but completely different concepts and yet when it comes to the Jets people struggle to recognize the differences.

Before the season the expectations were low at best, ranging from glorified expansion team to worst team in the league destined for the number one pick to three or four wins, five max, to a few rouge outliers predicting around 7-9, 8-8 otherwise known as an average football team.

After victories over the Falcons (on the road), Patriots and Saints somehow people decided to ignore the games that were lost in-between those wins and began to act like the expectations for the 2013 Jets had changed when in fact they should have stayed exactly they same. Those wins should’ve given fans hope, certainly watching this young team beat two of the elite teams in the league is worthy of being hopeful, but if those wins actually changed your expectations that’s on you. ‘Same Song’

Monday, November 25th, 2013

“All around the world, same song.”

Okay, maybe it’s not all around the world, or even the NFL world, but “all around the Jets for the past three years, same song,” doesn’t fit into a nice rhythmic hook like the quote from the classic Digital Underground song.

There’s a new quarterback and for the third straight year a new offensive coordinator, but it’s still the same old song; poor protection, no real weapons, inconsistent running game (again with the offensive line) and a quarterback who is both shellshocked and gun-shy. Winslow Returns From Suspension With Playoff Aspirations

Monday, November 11th, 2013

Florham Park, NJ - Most of the Jets returned to work after a week off, but Kellen Winslow returned from a five-week break and he returned with lofty aspirations.

Winslow was suspended for four games by the NFL for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. However what specific substance Winslow was suspended for we may never know.

It’s NFL policy to not publicly disclose which substance the player tested positive for and Winslow continues to tell the media that he’s still not sure how or why he failed the drug test and he’s waiting for a response from the NFLPA to identify the illegal substance. (more…)

Defense Shares Credit With Fans for Confusing Brees

Monday, November 4th, 2013

The week of the Patriots game Rex Ryan made an impassioned plea for Jet fans to show up and be loud as, he would say, ‘heck.’ The fans showed up that day and came through for Ryan and the Jets, but this week Ryan offered no such plea.

Apparently he didn’t need to, because the fans showed up charged with energy and made sure the Saints offense heard them.

“They were huge. That was the loudest I’ve heard them since I’ve been here.” Willie Colon said, “Jets Nation stood behind us. They’re big for our defense and they’re big for opponents that come into our house. They were big today.” (more…)
