Rams Hurting

Well it sure does not sound like linebacker David Harris will be returning to the lineup anytime soon, especially after Eric Mangini admitted today that Harris is a “longer shot” to play this week. Mangini did not provide a timetable for the injury, only expressing that “I don’t think the time frame is really set one way or the other. We’re just moving forward and trying to get him back as quickly as we can.”

With Harris out, David Bowens will likely continue to see increased playing-time. Bowens is quietly  putting together a nice season with the Jets, as he has recorded 18 tackles, 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. Mangini knows that the additional plays at inside linebacker is a transition for Bowens, but players such as Cody Spencer and Jason Trusnik are working inside as well.

As for whether Mangini is worried about Bowens being featured in an extended role on defense, the Jets’ head coach suggested that linebackers such as Vernon Gholston and Marques Murrell can rush the quarterback in sub packages.

In other news…the Jets’ opponent for this week, the St. Louis Rams, have significant injury issues. Six players did not practice today for the 2-6 Rams, including both Steven Jackson (thigh) and Antonio Pittman (hamstring). Safety Oshiomogho Atogwe (thigh), who leads the team with four interceptions, was limited because of a thigh injury.

Here’s the Rams’ complete injury report:

Did Not Participate: LB Chris Draft (foot), CB Tye Hill (knee), RB Steven Jackson (thigh), RB Travis Minor (concussion), DE Eric Moore (spine), RB Antonio Pittman (hamstring)

Limited Participation: S Oshiomogho Atogwe (thigh), DT Adam Carriker (ankle), WR Derek Stanley (ankle)
