Daboll Officially Jets to Cleveland
Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini is beginning to assemble his coaching staff and it began by plucking one of his former assistants from the Jets.
Brian Daboll, who served as the Jets quarterbacks coach for the previous two seasons, was officially hired today as the Browns offensive coordinator. Daboll’s relationship with Mangini dates back to the 2000 season, where he served as a defensive assistant with the Patriots and Mangini was the defensive backs coach. Daboll was promoted to the Patriots’ wide receiver coach prior to the 2002 season.
Daboll certainly deserves credit for helping quarterback Brett Favre learn the Jets’ offense after Favre joined the team in early August. His contract with the Jets was expiring.
Mangini also named Rob Ryan as his defensive coordinator and Brad Seely as his special teams coach. Ryan, brother of Ravens defensive coordinator Rex, held the same position with the Raiders for the previous five seasons. Seely served as the Patriots’ special teams coach for the past ten years.
