FLORHAM PARK, N.J.- On a blistering Wednesday afternoon, The Jets concluded day two of week two of voluntary OTA workouts. While the day had its good moments like the play of rookie wide receiver Jalen Saunders who received praise from both Geno Smith and Michael Vick, head coach Rex Ryan was not pleased with his team’s efforts.
“There were a lot of mistakes that were made today.” Ryan said, “We had like six or seven penalties today we were blowing coverages (and) blowing assignments and it’s a good thing we’re not playing because it was kind of ugly out there today.”
Ryan was also concerned that the player’s mental mindset was affecting the production on the field saying, “What you’ll see sometimes is a guy would be thinking and the physical part that he’s done, that’s easy all of a sudden shows up messy.” Specifically, Ryan signaled out the struggles of rookie tight end Jace Amaro. Saying, “All you gotta do is look at Jace, Jace had like three drops today… that’s where, clearly, a guy is thinking so much that all of a sudden you lose the focus on what job one is (which) is to catch the football.” (more…)
