Braylon Back In The Mix

July 24th, 2013

FLORHAM PARK, NJ – Various media sources are reporting that the team is close to re-signing veteran WR Braylon Edwards. Sources say he was in Florham Park this afternoon for a physical and will be in Cortland tomorrow when players are set to report after he signs a one year contract.

WR Braylon Edwards reportedly will soon be a Jet again. (JetsInsider.com Photo)

With the announcement today of Santonio Holmes starting camp on the PUP lis and his return date uncertain, the signing of Edwards brings some needed veteran depth to the team’s shaky wide receiving corps. The Jets signed Edwards towards the end of last season after he was released by the 49ers. His first stint with the Jets was in 2009-2010 where he caught 11 TD’s and was Mark Sanchez’s favorite target during their two consecutive AFC Championship Game runs.

A fan favorite, during this off-season many fans had lobbied the Jets on social media to re-sign Edwards and barring any surprises, their wishes will soon come true.

The Jets first full team practice is Friday in Cortland. Be sure to check back to JetsInsider.com often for full coverage!

Jets Sign Geno

July 22nd, 2013

FLORHAM PARK, NJ – The Jets came a little closer to securing all of their rookie draft class today by signing QB Geno Smith several sources confirm.

With QB Geno Smith now locked up, the Jets now look to sign first round picks Dee Milliner and Sheldon Richardson (JetsInsider.com Photo)

Reports this morning say Smith signed a 4 year $5MM deal.

Smith is represented by Jay Z’s new sports agency Roc Nation Sports. His contract surely isn’t what he thought he’d get, as many had originally projected him as a high first round pick. After a surprising fall, the Jets scooped him up early in the second round with the 39th pick.

The team starts training camp in Cortland NY this Thursday and rookies are slated to report to Florham Park today. That being said, the team still has their two first round picks, CB Dee Milliner and DT Sheldon Richardson unsigned. With the new collective bargaining agreement in place, rookie contracts are pretty straight forward so expect Milliner and Richardson to have deals signed soon.

Smith will be competing with veteran QB Mark Sanchez this camp as Head Coach Rex Ryan stated this spring that the starting job is wide open for the taking. QB’s Greg McElroy and Matt Simms are also on the roster this camp.

After the Jets eliminate annual practice on L.I., petition created to tell Woody that fans feel slighted.

June 27th, 2013

FLORHAM PARK, NJ – Many Jets fans (including myself) are still sore about the Jets total exile from NY five years ago. From teaming up with the Giants to build the new behemoth double money grab in the swamps to the following kick in the groin when the Jets announced they would move permanently from their 40 year home at Hofstra University to Florham Park, NJ.

As they left town, the team said they cherished their roots and would never forget their huge fan base (a source within the team has told me on multiple occasions that LI accounts for 50% or more of all Jets season ticket holders) on Long Island.

Please sign our petition letting the Jets know you are unhappy that the team has eliminated their annual Long Island camp practice.

Throwing Long Island a small bone, after the team moved in 2008 the Jets announced they would hold one practice per summer back at Hofstra. When they came back, the fans on Long Island showed that they didn’t hold a grudge by packing Shuart Stadium in Hempstead to standing-room only crowds. Apparently that didn’t move the Jets’ brass very much.

In 2011, the team cancelled LI Jets day due to threatening weather and did not re-schedule an alternate day.

Last year the team cancelled the event and moved it back to Jersey at Met Life Stadium due to a “maintenance issue” at the Hofstra (the team never elaborated this excuse).

This year, the Jets basically told Long Island to drop dead by not even scheduling an event for their fans here.

A team spokesman quote in Newsday on Tuesday said the team is “interested in engaging directly with as many fans as possible including hosting events and practices in Queens and Long Island”. Their actions speak much louder than their words.

In taking a step to show Woody Johnson just how much Long Island Jets fans feel slighted by this, we have created a petition for fans to sign and leave comments about their displeasure.

Please sign it and respectfully ask Woody to make LI part of the Jets again.

QB Garrard to leave Jets

May 15th, 2013

FLORHAM PARK, NJ – In a surprising QB twist, JetsInsider.com has learned that veteran QB David Garrard, who the Jets picked up this off-season to compete for the starting job is leaving the team.

WE HARDLY KNEW YE! QB David Garrard apparently calls it quits due to a bum knee.

According to SNY’s Adam Schein, Garrard texted him this afternoon saying his surgically repaired knee was not holding up and he will be leaving the team.

Garrard, who hasn’t played in the NFL since 2010 tried a comeback last season with the Miami Dolphins but that ended in camp when he injured his knee and needed arthroscopic surgery. Garrard has also had back surgery to repair herniated discs.

This development likely ends Garrard’s career.

The loss of Garrard leaves 4 QB’s on the Jets roster, Mark Sanchez, Gregg McElroy, Matt Simms and Geno Smith. Look for the team to sign another veteran before the season starts.

Check back to JetsInsider.com often for more on this breaking story and all the latest Jets news.

Jets lose another player as Slauson signs with Bears

March 29th, 2013

The mass exodus of players continued today as LG Matt Slauson signed a one year contract with Chicago. The deal was confirmed by a twitter post by the Bears this afternoon.

The latest Ex-Jet is LG Matt Slauson who signed with the Bears today. (JetsInsider.com Photo)

Slauson, started all games at LG for the Jets over the past three seasons after being drafted by the Jets in the sixth round out of Nebraska in 2009. The loss leaves another hole in the Jets starting lineup. Starting RG Brandon Moore is an unrestricted FA and not expected to be re-signed.

The loss of Slauson leaves only Mark Sanchez remaining from the 2009 draft class.

In other news free agent  TE Fred Davis, who met with the Jets yesterday, decided to re-sign with the Redskins today.
