Jets and their Fans praying Revis injury isn’t season ending

September 23rd, 2012

MIAMI FL – After the Jets ugly win against the Dolphins Sunday, the biggest thing on everyone’s mind involved with the organization… staff, media and fans isn’t the team’s  unimpressive performance on both sides of the ball, it’s the status of their franchise player, All-Pro CB Darrelle Revis who injured his knee during the game.

Everyone involved with the Jets are praying Darrell Revis' knee injury is not serious. (JetsInsider.com Photo)Revis left the game in the second half after his left knee appeared to buckle when trying to tackle Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas. The injury initially seemed to be very serious as he winced in pain on the field and while being taken off.

Revis left the game in the second half after his left knee appeared to buckle when trying to tackle Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas. The injury initially seemed to be very serious as he winced in pain on the field and while being taken off. He was seen afterwards boarding the team bus walking without crutches but with a noticeable limp.

Revis declined to speak to the media or comment about his injury after the game. Coach Rex Ryan acknowledged that the loss of Revis would be a devastating loss for the team.

“Clearly, with Darrelle, your best player, of course you’re going to be concerned.” said Ryan.  ”I don’t know anything about it right now. We’ll find out with the MRI.”

According to the team, the MRI is scheduled tomorrow morning and everyone in Jetsland will be holding their breath until then hoping not to hear the dreaded “tear” word when the results are revealed.

The loss of Revis would be a back breaking blow to the team who despite being touted as a premier defense before the season by the Coach and many NFL experts, has struggled, giving up 72 points in 3 games.

Revis’ replacement is former first round pick Kyle Wilson who has yet to show that he can handle the role as a starter or even a replacement or extra CB for that matter. Making matters worse, Revis’ partner on the other side of the field, Antonio Cromartie has struggled the first three games.

All in all, bad news for a team seemingly going into the hardest next two weeks of the season, with matchups against the 49ers and Texans.

Desire to see Tebow as Jets QB is created by the media, not the fans

September 10th, 2012

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ: After the Jets’ shellacking of Buffalo yesterday 48-28, I was chatting with a friend  who covers the Jets for a major media outlet on the way down Rex Ryan’s post-game presser. He told me his boss emailed him to make sure he got plenty of Tebow stuff  for his game story.

Smart Jets fans want Tim Tebow to stay right here this season...on the bench (JetsInsider.com Photo)

Tebow stuff? 5 plays for 11 yards. How do you generate “plenty of Tebow stuff” from that?

This proves it…It’s really not the Fans who want Tim Tebow playing QB for the Jets, it’s the media. Basically because he’s a news wet dream.

Don’t get me wrong. If the Jets lose to Buffalo yesterday and Mark Sanchez continued his pre-season offensive sputter and threw 3 or 4 picks, the fans would be all over him and probably be screaming for Tebow. However, if Drew Stanton was still the Jets back-up QB the cries would be the same.

The backup QB is always the savior in waiting, whether he’s Tim Tebow, Kellen Clemens, Glenn Foley or even Matt Robinson (for those old timers).

Despite Tebow’s obvious aura as a personality and his ability to make plays at times like he did in Denver, I find it really hard pressed to think that any fan who knows the game of professional football would want this man as their starting QB…not just over Sanchez, over ANY current NFL starter. I know the retorts…”he’s a winner”, “he’s a playmaker”, “he’s the golden child” etc… Playing in the SEC, those are all good points but in the NFL it just doesn’t cut it.

It’s been clear since Tebow was drafted that he cannot throw the ball on an NFL level. Did you watch Tebow this pre-season? He had every chance to show he could be the Jets’ man but failed miserably every chance he got. We also saw yesterday with his running of the garbage wildcat package, that it’s nothing more than a gimmick which doesn’t fool anyone.

Tebow had some late game flashes in Denver last year. He beat our own Jets in the final minutes. He beat the mighty Steelers in the playoffs. But honestly… the real reason Denver was even in those games last season was not due to Tebow, it was due to their overachieving  defense. If the defense didn’t keep the games low scoring and close, it’s likely none of them would have been winnable. Do you really think that Pittsburgh playoff game would have been the same if the Steelers weren’t decimated with injuries?

I’m very happy for Mark Sanchez. He did what he had to yesterday to for now, quiet his critics. He will likely have to continue to do this all season to keep the heat off of him which is really unfair based on his past success with this team. He’s the most over-criticized QB in the NFL in my opinion. However, the majority of the heat will be from the media, and not the fans.  When any QB falters fans always scream for the backup. If Tebow wasn’t here it would be Stanton or even McElroy the fans would call for.

Bottom line is that NY is the eye of the world’s sports media hurricane. There are a lot of papers and TV/Radio ad space to sell. Whether the Jets win or lose, Tebow as QB sells.

Jets fans just want to win. Who leads them to victory is really secondary.

Tebow to Jets? Not so fast.

March 21st, 2012

After reports came out earier today that the Jets traded for Broncos QB Tim Tebow, ESPN is now reporting that there may be a glitch in the deal that will void the trade.

Many Jets fans are indeed praying that the trade of Tim Tebow to the Jets will be voided.

In possibly the biggest “scratch your head”  news in Jets history (and there have been many over the years) the story broke out early this afternoon that the Jets had sent a 4th round and 6th round pick in this year’s draft  for Tebow and the Broncos’ 7th round pick.

Now, ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the two sides have encountered a hangup in the language of Tim Tebow’s contract that could nullify the trade. It this is indeed true, it’s reported that the St. Louis Rams could be Tebow’s destination.

Jets Ink Safety Landry

March 19th, 2012

In their biggest free agent splash of the new season so far, the Jets today came to terms with former Redskins S LaRon Landry today, filling a huge void in Rex Ryan’s defense.

The Jets secondary just got a lot bigger with the addition of former Redskins S LaRon Landry (JetsInsider.com Photo)

The deal was confirmed by several sources and reportedly is for one year at $4MM. Landry had spoken with several suitors but it was reported that there had been hesitantancy to sign the talented defensive back to a long term deal due to a history of injuries including a chronic Achilles’ issue. The Jets seem to have hedged their risk by limiting their deal to just a year.

Landry, a former 1st round pick of Washington in 2007, is a great athlete who is a freight train around the line of scrimmage but not as good in pass coverage. Landry will join Eric Smith at FS and there’s a chance Jim Leonhard could be re-signed on te cheap, coming off injury.

Landry joins former Lions QB Drew Stanton and former Raiders WR Chaz Schilens as new free agents that have come to the Jets this past week.

UPDATE: Team officially announced the hiring of Tony Sparano as offensive coordinator. Todd Haley’s interview was moved from Wednesday to Thursday.

FLORHAM PARK, NJ - Despite team brass saying he will return, Brian Schottenheimer is gone as Jets Offensive Coordinator as confirmed by a statement released by the team late Tuesday evening. Soon after, the word is that former Dolphins Head Coach and Tony Sparano and former Chiefs Head Coach Todd Haley could be coming in to run the Jets offense. Jets offensive line coach Bill Callahan will also not be back as he is headed to Dallas to do the same job for the Cowboys.

Jets Fans won't have Brian Schottenheimer to kick around anymore as he has left the team as OC. (JetsInsider.com Photo)

The statement released by the team said that Schottenheimer has “decided not to return” but there’s no doubt that he was let go after he did not get the Jaguars head coaching gig. Likely he was given a financial settlement after being told his services were no longer wanted.

Soon after the announcement various sources were reporting that Schotty’s job would be offered to Sparano and then this morning, Haley came into the mix. Sparano and Haley are good friends and ran the Cowboys offense under Bill Parcells in Dallas from 2004-2006. Sparano’s expertise is running backs/offensive line while Haley has experience with Quarterbacks/Wide Receivers. All is all, a great combo.

The Jets are expected to announce Sparano’s hiring today while Haley will reportedly meet with the team today. His hiring is not imminent as the Cardinals are showing interest as well.

Jets Get Plax

July 31st, 2011

Unable to give veteran WR Braylon Edwards the type of contract he wanted, the Jets filled the hole by agreeing to a deal with  former Giants WR Plaxico Burress.

The controversial wideout who is coming off a two year prison term for gun possession will sign a one year deal with Gang Green worth approximately $3MM fully guaranteed.

Former Giants WR Plaxico Burress will fill the void left by Braylon Edwards.

The team was interested in bringing back Edwards but after signing Santonio Holmes earlier this week for $50MM, they  just didn’t have the flexibility to give him the type of money he wanted which reportedly is #1 receiver  compensation. There were rumors of interest in Randy Moss, but sources say that Burress was on their radar from the beginning.

Burress will provide the sure handed big body that Edwards gave the team and should help the team in the red zone, where they have struggled in the past. The trio of Holmes, Burress and veteran Jerricho Cotchery has to make QB Mark Sanchez smile. The team is also very high on bringing wideout Patrick Turner to the next level this season. Turner was Sanchez’s teammate at USC and his favorite target while they played together.

Sources say the team’s top priority now is to re-sign CB Antonio Cromartie after they lost out on  Nnamdi Asomugha on Friday to the Eagles. Saturday they re-signed S Eric Smith to a 3 year extension. The team also hosted former Ravens FA TE Todd Heap yesterday but did not sign him as of this article. The combo of Dustin Keller and Heap at TE for the Jets would be a lethal combination.

The Jets open in prime-time at home against Tony Romo and the re-vamped Cowboys on September 11.

Quick observations show the Jets on prime time four more times after the Cowboys (Baltimore, Miami, New England and Denver) which is no surprise for a team that went to the AFC Championship two years in a row.

Those who are into sports betting have to believe that the odds of the Jets returning to the post-season are good with only five games against teams that made the playoffs last year.

There were rumors that the Jets would open the season in prime- time against the Giants on September 11, commemorating the ten year anniversary of the tragedy but those turned out to be false as the teams will meet on Christmas Eve with the Jets as the home team.
