Moss to Jets: “I prided my offseason to staying off Revis Island”
FLORHAM PARK, NJ – The battle for the AFC East kicks off at 1 p.m. EST on Sunday as the New England Patriots visit the New York Jets, but the trash talk–which will seem to be standard operating procedure for this year’s Jets team–has already begun.
After a strong showing against the Cincinnati Bengals, the Patriots, who have been overlooked coming into to the season, are providing the bulletin board material for the Jets, in particular the defense’s star Darrelle Revis.
“We’re coming to the Meadowlands on Sunday, man, so you got 60 minutes of this ’slouch,’” said All-Pro WR Randy Moss. “I don’t really get into the trash talking, but if what he called me was a ’slouch,’ then I guess the ’slouch’ will be there to see you on Sunday.”
Moss was effectively shut down in two games last season against CB Darrelle Revis, who had nine catches for 57 yards and one TD. Revis, who frequently gave star receivers a free vacation on Revis Island, would then go on to refer to the seven-time Pro Bowler as a “slouch”.
It wasn’t all trash talk, although, as Moss did offer praise to the fourth year corner from Pittsburgh. He said that the shut-down status of Revis ’surprised’ him and forced him to work harder knowing there was a receiver who’s A game is equal to or greater than Moss’s.
“I take pride in what I do. I prided my offseason on staying off Revis Island.”
Head coach Rex Ryan has already said that we can expect Revis to exclusively cover Moss this Sunday. Against Baltimore, Revis did very well in covering WR Anquan Boldin, but later in the game went to the Cromartie/Wilson tandem to cover Boldin. Ryan stated that he should’ve kept Revis on Boldin, who had seven catches for 110 yards, for the entire game.
Expect the Patriots to take a shot or two at Revis, which the Ravens failed to do. Ryan is hoping they will, where Revis will be there waiting.
