View Full Version : The rise of Jay Cutler...?

I'm trying to remember the last time another QB came out with a mediocre record at school and then had his stock soar at the combine. Since I didn't really start following college football until I started college a few years ago, I don't really know what the precedent is for this. Typically, it would seem that guys who shoot up the charts mostly because of a good workout tend to not be what their workout suggested. The guys who get it done on the field in the pros are generally the ones who got it done on the field in college. That being said, I'm really wary of the possiblity that we could draft Cutler at 4. He was being projected as a 2nd round pick before the combine. Since his season was over, the only thing that made his stock rise was the workout. So, when was the last time a QB's stock rose so suddenly, and how did it work out for the team that got him?

Akili Smith?? - Maybe Dan McGuire.
To Cutler's credit, Smith only started one season in college.
I am just joking around. To compare Cutler to these two guys is a serious insult. Cutler will make a great QB. If he has time to learn the pro style offense and has a hands on QBcoach/offensive coordinator he will be good.
It is just that he has come out the same year that Leinart and Yound did.
I saw him throw at the combine. He missed quite a few throws. He throws a nice pass most of the time but missed where Ingle Martin didn't. The press just hyped the hell out of Cutler; I'm not sure either. Do you believe or not. Anyway I think it is a high price to pay #4 but that is what makes life interesting. :)

If you can't get Leinart, then I'd rather see the Jets forget about a QB in round# 1... Hawk, Williams, DBrick... all rate higher than Cutler/Young.

the last time it happened this way was Phillip Rivers and the jury is still out on him.
It's not a joke to be the best player on both squads in Mobile, ALA for the Senior Bowl. People think that means nothing, they are wrong it is a very big deal.
