my mate has a plumbing supply distributorship, problem is all the people at the workstations are surfing porn sites and ebay. what's the best, cheapest way, to prevent web browsing on certain stations. any help would be appreciated.

How many workstations are we talking about?

My company uses this -

http://www.websense.com/global/en/

Sadly, it's effective...but if they ever blocked ebay I'd have to change jobs...seriously...

you need a program like "program protector" which can password lock any windows programs including "internet explorer"

small scale, like 5 workstations max on the entire network. that websense looks like something for a law firm.

Sonicwall has a lot of nice firewall appliances that are scalable in terms of security features. PM me if you want some more info.

5 workstations? Content advisor. Tools>Internet Options>Content then enable content advisor.
You set a PW and add any approved sites.
Very effective and easy to use.

Have had good luck with the SonicWall TZ170...
can filter sites and also prevents unwanted email attcahments...
has virius blocker and adware blocker..
logs everything.. can go back and review all internet usage.

Good Luck!
