What do you think of the Ruger SP101? I have only heard great things about this gun.

I shot one at the range earlier this week and liked it. The .357 was a little rough, though it did have factory grips on it. The .38 was a dream.

Anyone own one and you recommned it?

Any other firearms you would recommend you can post it here.

A reliable handgun that shoots accurate and is easy to maintain is a Glock. The sub-compacts are great. The Glock 27 is an easy gun to deal with when it comes to shooting and cleaning.

Carrying it overseas and at home, I recommend the old .45.

Although new, lighter, composite material weapons are popular new in the "tacti-cool"- "you can never have too many flashlights/ targetsights/ rangefinders" attachment age, the .45 carries enough weight to give the user confidence and the reliability of almost a century of battlefield experience.

I stick with the classics. Thankfully, I have never had to use it in anger, but the feeling of stability, reliability and double safety features always gives me confidence when I have to carry it and is easy to clean, unlike the M9 Beretta that replaced it.

I have also fired the HK SOCOM .45 sidearm, but I think that weapon demands considerable skill from the shooter and is fabricated to such exact quality that the slightest wear affects its reliability. Not to mention it is a very expensive firearm on the civilian market.

Might want to take a look at the Springfield XD series. Won Handgun of the Year two different times I think. The .45 ACP is on my wish list if/when I get the dough.

There's something about not seeing a hammer messes with me(Glocks), these are my favorites.
I've owned alot of guns, as far as pistols go if your looking for a wheel gun, your comfortable with the feel of a 38 cal. and if home protection is a factor(wife or girlfriend) point and shoot ,you can't go wrong.
My personal favorites would be
45 cal. Sig P220
45 cal. HK USP 45

Both dependable auto's that you can put all sorts of ammo through with out jamming,(ball, reloads etc).

Ruger is a good name and have been around a long time Iv'e only had one though P85 9mil. which was decent.

Yeah, I've got a Ruger P89 and it's a great gun. I put a new grip on it a few months back because the stock one was kinda bulky for my hands and I still haven't made the time to shoot it since. I need to plan a trip to the desert soon.

That is one weapon I hope I never encounter. More intimidating than practical nonetheless.

With all the blades on it, they might as well put a gun in there somewhere.

I had about 15 guns when I lived in New Mexico for 5 years before moving to SoCal. There was nothing like going to the desert and just unloading what ever you have. I didn't care for the grip on that or my 92FS, too fat.

my brother has that gun, it's ****ing fantastic.

Can't go wrong with a revolver, easy to clean and all. I still prefer an automatic though.
