I would vote for him in a heartbeat but we both know he will never be allowed to win the party's nomination. He is one of the few politicians running for president that is not an absolute hypocrite when it comes to tax and spending issues.
Ron Paul is the only republican in the race for POTUS
I mean why not? They've tried their guys and they were shellacked by a community organizer from Chicago. Time to shift strategy. But they won't. They're old, cranky, stubborn and hopefully dying off soon.
No one's older and crankier than Ronpaulstiltskin
I know kids these days are into GILFs but this is ridiculous...
A more charismatic and younger Ron Paul with the same views would be close to an ideal president in the eyes of most Americans.....Problem is his views don't go with the traditional thinking of hard line Republicans.
What the majority of people in America really want is a Conservative spending-wise who also realizes that it is 2011 social-issue wise.....Problem is for the most part you have to pick your poison when it comes to choosing Republican or Democrat.....Is there a solution for this at all?
It's so funny to watch the old neo-cons disparage policies like sound currency, fiscal restraint, and limited government. Ron Paul serves no greater purpose than exposing all the socialists-in-hawk's-clothing that like to pretend that they are conservatives.
Fears based on total ignorance. Like the fear that if Alex and Kyle from San Francisco are allowed to marry, it will somehow cheapen and affect the marriage of Mike and Sally in New Jersey.
Or insane fears with no scientific basis about addiction and society crumbling if we let people smoke a joint (making these decisions from our ivory towers while sipping whiskey). Nevermind the economic benefits, reduced crime and increased quality of life it would offer. Baseless fear is far more powerful than logic.
Or fears that the entire world hates us simply because we're better than them. So we better invade them all! Kill, spend, invade!!!! Sacrifice our children!!! Kill, kill, kill!!!! (and then blame our massive deficit on a radio station)
Can anyone honestly say that marraige is strong today anyway? People are people and nothing will change whether gays can get married or not. It amazes me that anyone can make legislating against this a priority. Maybe we should look at the divorce laws as opposed to the marriage laws. At this point it is so easy to get divorced. I think that is what has cheapened marraige. From my experience most people are just too selfish to comprimise to keep their families together anymore.
Now that I'm and old fart, with a little more understanding, I would embrace someone who presented them selves as a social liberal, fiscal conservative.
Will we EVER see anyone like that? Why is it impossible? I guess because they would never get the nod from either party.
This issue is the single biggest hypocrisy of the right. Conservatives stand primarily on restoring and preserving the grounds on which this nation was built. It was founded on principals of personal liberty and religious freedom. Yet somewhere along the way, we've totally abandonded that. We now accept judging other human beings based on one religion's belief. We cry that government exists primarily to protect the rights of its citizens. But what right of anyones is being violated if two women decide to shack up?
I, for one, do oppose gay marriage. But I also oppose straight marriage. Marriage, plain and simple, is a religious institution. The government has no business in marriage or vice versa. If your church opposes gay marriage, fine, that is their perogotive. No one is forcing your church to allow it. Get married there, that's wonderful for you and your choices. But don't tell anyone else they can't do the same at their forum of choosing.
If the states want to recognize civil unions, fine. Civil unions for ALL.
The people running against Ron Paul are neo cons, not republicans. Funny how a great deal of the things that he talked about even in the last election cycle are now what people are talking about.
Freedom has no age limit
Huge Dr. Paul supporter. He may not a very realistic shot, but he's got my vote.
So not extending the debt limit or having an actual budget that deals with the reality of an ageing and growing population and the reality that we were attacked is a plan?
