Alabama defenders Mark Barron & Courtney Upshaw

both are looking good today against Ole Miss. both seem like legitimate possibilities for the Jets early in the draft as far as need vs value goes. thoughts?

Mark Barron is a favorite of Hammers and Its true this player fits this defense. personally I'd rather they use a 2nd on him than a 1st but definitely the Jets could use either of those SEC Bangers in Rex's D.

they don't have alot of needs by the way. For a 2-3 team everyone is down on, there's not alot of obvious holes on the roster that warrent a 1st round pick. RT, S, ILB possibly? none of those are rd 1 type of plays for this front office. they don't usually draft WR or OLB but it might be time to reload.

under Mike T they've drafted LT, C, CB, CB, QB, OLB, TE, DE all in the first round. that's a lot of positions; i don't think its fair to say "they don't do this, they don't do that." itll come down to finding a balance between BPA and need, per usual.

yup. Upshaw is completely dominating. he's my choice for the Jets in 2012.

I think was he is referring to is that Tanny cut his teeth under Parcells and Parcells never did put such a high value on WR. Also, with what we all perceive as a hole at the safety spot, they seem to fill with journeyman or career back ups. So I would agree that Tanny would probably be looking at a premium position over safety or WR in the first.

true. but either way, Upshaw plays that premium position, which, unfortunately for us, is in need of a huge upgrade.

Parcells never put a high value on offensive linemen either but that didn't stop Tanny from drafting Brick and Mangold in the 1st round.

Not a huge fan of Barron but as Bit said, for a second he looks like solid value. Upshaw is build like a truck and is already a very complete player that should be able to step in from day one as a starter...
