John Simon - DE, Ohio State
with the bye week this week am watching some more college football than usual. the DE/OLB from Ohio State is impressing me as a pass rusher. as much as i hate the idea of drafting another tweener from that school, this guy does have one hell of a motor. cant say that about the ghost.

Jets hit a home run with Mangold. Struck out with Nugent, Schlegel and Gholston.
My guess is they have had their fill of Buckeyes. Look for the Jets to draft a safety this year and some offensive linemen. |
cant disagree with that. was just watching the game and noticed some talent, leadership, and desire, at a position that lacks depths for us.

A pass rusher, who could also play the run, would be nice... but honestly this team needs help elsewhere first now that Maybin has stepped in and literally hit the ground running.
I think he's exactly what the Jets needed and will be here for a while, even if he's just a PR specialist. WR is a big need, specifically a BIG WR who isn't 35-years-old. I'm all aboard the Michael Floyd train right now. Safety is a need, but there are none who are high end, 1st round types in this year's draft IMO. I like Lester from Bama but there are some holes to his game and he's probably not a day 1 starter. |
Only problem is there will be absolutely no big time receivers or pass rushers available where the Jets will end up picking from.
They will have to find a diamond in the rough if they are to get an impact pass rush. It is Much easier to find an athletic safety who can cover TEs. I think as Kenrick Ellis develops as a NT the pass rush will get better bc he will occupy blockers and ultimately do the job of two DTs similar to how Jenkins was. Jets still haven't recovered from losing Jenkins. It takes two guys (Devito and Pouha) to do what he did. Jets had to change their defense a little and thus gave up pass rush ability. |
