By any measure, Chad Pennington was not a successful NFL quarterback.

Yes he was. Two division titles, two playoff victories, 4 times in playoffs. Not bad....

Yes, bad.

The most important thing a quarterback needs to do is lead his team. Every-other-year, Chad Pennington wasn't there.

When people wring their hands over the fact that players dont really care about the fans they are risking life and limb for...this is why the players dont care.

Can you blame them?

Injuries killed this kid, the damage he sustained playing for NY Jets fans killed this kid's career.

Am I happy he tried to prolong his career when he should have sat out?

No. But that's on the Jets, not Chad.

They should have told him to hang it up.

They waited too long.

I'm with you on the latter part, the Jets should have cut bait with Chad and moved on in 2006. Chad admitted that he ruined our 2007 season by playing hurt all season, personally turning 4 wins into pick-six losses.

But for the former, no player is "risking his life and limb for the fans". They are trained from Age 5, nurtured by coaches, pushed by parents, and get paid a boatload of money for a 5 year period in which they can earn enough money to last their lifetime.

Don't tell me that Bart Scott is risking injury and whiffing on tackles on my behalf; he's in it for him. I don't blame him, by the way. But let's not glorify these guys as if they're in it for us.

Chad had twice the heart of Bart with half the physical skills. I'm not glorifying anyone, I just dont see the point of bashing guys that failed... due to injury.

You want to bash Bart on his whiffing...I'm with ya. He's a dog.

Chad Pennington hasn't coached a team in his life, but yeah, let's consider making him a quarterback coach at the most critical juncture at that position since 1974 because you thought he displayed some classy qualities while failing for seven seasons. The fact that he hasn't even coached a second-grade intramural soccer team for five minutes in his life doesn't count.

SAR I

As opposed to the idiot who thinks you have to be a HOF player at as position to be a successful coach?

Want to tell us how successful a player Bellicheat was? Parcells? Shula?

How about Case Stengel? Lasorda?

Can go on forever. Very few if any coaches, managers etc were successful players at their sport.

Most start their coaching careers as a position coach working at the position they played.

You just like to hear the sound of your own voice and want to tell everyone that the usual road won't work with people you despise. One flaw with this is you pretty much whine about every player that has ever worn a uniform of the Jets.

I started dozing off 2 minutes into the first clip. He's as boring to listen to as he was to watch on the field on Sundays.

You watched; therefore you care!...Do you like Sanchez? Is there an Anti-Mark Militia?! Just wondering if all it takes for you to love a guy is for him to ride the coattails of a strong defense/running game to an couple of AFC title games but choke when it mattered, then follow it up with an incredibly underachieving 8-8 season and lose the faith of some in his locker room by being questioned about his work ethic. You love to talk about Brady ruling the AFC while Chad was there; how bout the other NY QB Eli Manning owning your city while Sanchez sits back and watches?!

He does have some points, but as along time Jet fan, Penny def had some good moments and the team was respectable when he was healthy. I still wear his jersey to this day (can't ever figure which one to get next)

The Sunday night game up in Foxboro when he hit his first 13 passes in a row.

The next day, 95% of this board was claiming PennyBoy > Brady.

Count the TD passes he threw in this game. 3 more than Chad threw in the Divisional Round in Pittsburgh.

Here's Mark getting a crucial completion that gets the Jets in position to beat Peyton Manning. He didn't just take a knee like somebody we know. ;)

Here's Mark burying the favored Chargers in the Divisional Round of the 2009 playoffs.

None of that is the defense carrying him. That's Mark making plays when it matters.....the same time Chad always disappeared.
