No link he just opened his press conference with the announcement

lageman4ever 08-23-2012 11:19 AM

That was the discussion Tanny had with Hunter yesterday after practice.

Smart move - Austin Howard will only get better with experience.

JFB 08-23-2012 11:19 AM

Great...now what do I do with my Wayne Hunter jersey?

what happens if howard sucks against carolina? nowhere to go then.

shuler82 08-23-2012 11:22 AM

While Howard can't possibly be worse than Hunter (he can't be.. right?) I really hope this isn't our 'solution' at RT.. they should bring in a few guys once roster cuts are made

BRONX JET 08-23-2012 11:23 AM

It's being tweeted as well. This is good. Give someone else a shot at sucking

if howard is better at run blocking then the move is good even if they're the same in pass protection. hunter gets no push.

Austin Howard

Professional career

Philadelphia Eagles

Howard was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent following the 2010 NFL Draft on April 27, 2010.[10] He made the 53-man roster and played in four games, starting at left tackle in one game.
In order to better fit into new offensive line coach Howard Mudd's system, Howard lost about 15 pounds to get down to 330 pounds.[11] However, he was waived during final roster cuts on September 3, 2011.
Baltimore Ravens

Howard was signed to the Baltimore Ravens' practice squad on September 6, 2011.
New York Jets

The New York Jets signed Howard to their active roster off the Ravens' practice squad on November 25, 2011.[12]

You mean the Jets are banned from making trades or picking players that are cut? You have a link to that?

Rex did say in the press conference something along the lines:

'Tannebaum is always looking for things to do, we're always evaluating each position, you have no idea who's going to be cut before the season starts and what players will be let go by any and each team'

And I believe he said that in reference to possibly upgrading that RT position even after the fact Hunter was already replaced.

Beerfish 08-23-2012 11:28 AM

Howard might not be very good at all, he can't be worse than Hunter. Maybe he can at least learn to hold.

DDNYjets 08-23-2012 11:28 AM

Anyone is better than Hunter.

But lets not act like our problems are solved.

frostlich 08-23-2012 11:28 AM

Per the tweets, jets exploring trade for RT(not earth shattering).

Demotion related to Hunter missing practice yesterday?

What a train wreck.
