Garrett McIntyre: Maybe a Wally Pipp thing here?

For those that don't know, Pipp was who Lou Gehrig took over for when Pipp went down with and injury. He never started another game for the Yakmees.

I thought McIntyre had a great game ( with the exception of one running play). Hopefully BT never gets his job back. He sucks!!

Well, lets wait a couple games before we declare that. I mean no one was saying that Wally Pipp was "Wally Pipped" after the first game Gehrig played.

LOL, we can only Hope that BT gets Wally Pipped!

you know what's crazy, I have seen like 3 Wally Pipp references after this week's games: McIntyre, Dante Rosario for Antonio Gates and Daryl Richardson for Steven Jackson. OK, guess not that crazy.

But McIntyre looked inspired out there. Quicker than I thought and he actually knew how to tackle Big Ben! He might not start when BT comes back, but he'll definitely be on the field. more depth the better. btw, where's Maybin?

Funny ( and I swear to god that I started the thread before seeing this) Cimini says the same thing:

Don't forget though. Matthias Berning is still better than McIntyre:

I would hardly say he was the best LB last preseason. He showed promise and potential but still had a world of work to do. Took a number of wrong steps (nearly blocked Bellore on one play because he read the ball and running back instead of the pulling guards which is probably the single most important key for an inside backer), didn't scrape as well as you'd like. But DID show some potential. I can see him being the 4th ILB if Bart Scott does not return. In my opinion of new/JV backers this past preseason would be:
Mauga
Bellore
Eddie Jones
McIntyre
Berning

He's slow. Has no instincts.

He's an OLB and can't cover nor pass rush nor hold the edge on sweeps.

Cannot shed blocks.

Disappears and is ineffective on ST.

In my mind, he provides absolutely NOTHING to this team.

I'm sorry if you don't like my use of the word "horrible," but if the shoe fits...

No big deal.

So Bryan Thomas was our Lou Gehrig?

That would explain the lack of Super Bowls.

Which of course makes McIntyre our Lou Gherig

BT > McIntyre.

I can see that Mac is becoming JI's 2012 Maybin.

BT hasn't had a 2-sack game since game 1 in 2008

He was great rushing the QB and runners... looked lost in space trying to cover...

Pretty much the story of every LB on our team.

Harris hasn't done a good job in coverage since he was at Michigan

exactly. ONE freaking game ... RE FREAKING LAX!

McIntyre > Gehrig

southparkcpa 09-18-2012 01:13 PM

All of which tells us that UDFA's are important to a team.

THIS TEAM...doesn't do a good enough job with picks 6 and 7 as well as UDFA's.

Lol.

McIntyre is 28 - so at a time of physical peak. Although he's only been in the NFL for a few years, he did spend some time in the CFL. So - yes - this could be his 'peak' performance era - this year and next. Does he solve our a piece of our LB puzzle long-term? No way.

But is his peak-ability suddenly elevating him above a JAG? Totally plausible and reasonable. So let's enjoy it while we can. He'll get plenty of reps this week end in Miami to show that it wasn't a fluke.
