Jets last drive

3rd and ten coming up right before two minute warning with one timeout left. Why the rush to get play off, with plenty of time left on play clock? Why not use free TO, talk it over etc? The results speak for themselves. Don't get it.

Even worse 3rd and 17

Doesn't change much...

When you talk it over you give the defense a bigger advantage in my opinion. You rush things, the pass rush gets harmed, the defensive call is also likely to be very vanilla.

Same reason why New England's offense beat the **** out of Denver. Extremely high tempo, defense can't contend with it.

Plus, the guy was open and just had to catch it..

That, and the onside I thought were the two biggest mistakes.

tebow should have been the qb on that last drive and the score today might be different.

gaffneycatch 10-09-2012 03:32 PM

they had to score a TD and felt like time was an issue...

they obviously felt that they should take advantage of the opportunity to save 20 - 25 seconds on a completed pass and tackle in-bounds (run the play before the 2 min warning and the clock stops, after and it keeps running).

can't really fault this thinking...they had a long way to go for a TD, and only 1 timeout, so time was indeed a factor.

Chupa 10-09-2012 03:49 PM

Cumberland catches a pass that hit him in the hands and its 4th and 5-7

Then why not run the ball or try a short, high % pass?

What you are saying makes sense, but the play design that resulted in the int didnt really appear to be a high % pass play.

Plus your scenario gives up a down and basically guarantees we only have 1 shot at it on 4th down.

I think it would have been smarter to lose the 20 seconds, get the play call and personnel right, and then have 2 mins with 1 TO to go 50 yards.

Poor decision by a QB for whom the game has never slowed down. There was almost no advantage to getting off the play before the 2 minute warning. We get a free TO there and had another TO to use on top of it. There was plenty of time to drive the field from where we were and 3rd and 17 is a hard enough down and distance even if you're not rushing. Everything felt rushed, the throw was high, the backup TE couldn't make the catch. Play was a microcosm of the Jets offense this season

you're right jj watt needed a few more swatted passes to finish off the night.

AbstraKt 10-09-2012 06:42 PM

We stupidly burned 2 TOs early. Sanchez was tryin to get the most out of the clock.

I think Rex purposely isn't putting Tebow in because if he succeeds, then Rex has to deal with benching a sulking Sanchez and Tanny has to admit he made another mistake on a high draft pick.

Yes, this is pure genius. Rex would rather lose games and potentially lose his job instead of having to deal with benching a sulking Sanchez.

Sweet Sheezus, is this what it's come to around here?

It's called Finite Arithmetic... aka math. The other team has 3 downs @ 35 seconds per and one timeout. If it doesn't make sense to you then it probably never will.

It was fine. Stop whining. If Cumberland catches that pass we would have won the game. Houston is overrated. Rex will have this team ready to start a big winning streak next week.

Because the idiots burned two crucial timeouts earlier in the quarter because they couldn't get personnel and substitutions figured out and needed to try to get an extra play in before the two minute warning to try to give themselves a better chance to complete the rally within the remaining two minutes. To borrow a quote from Dennis Miller "It's the circle of life, simba."

The Jets are going to lose to New England. What do you have to say that, Rah_ Rah?
