LOS ANGELES – Disney is paying $4.05 billion to buy Lucasfilm Ltd., the production company behind "Star Wars," from its chairman and founder, George Lucas. It's also making a seventh movie in the "Star Wars" series.

The Walt Disney Co. announced the agreement to make the purchase in cash and stock Tuesday. Disney added that "Star Wars Episode 7" is scheduled for release in 2015.

The deal brings Lucasfilm under the Disney banner with other brands including Pixar, Marvel, ESPN and ABC.

Kathleen Kennedy, the current co-chairman of Lucasfilm, will become its president and report to Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn. Lucas will be creative consultant on new "Star Wars" films.

Lucas said in a statement, "It's now time for me to pass `Star Wars' on to a new generation of filmmakers."

Has to be better than 1, 2 and 3.

Also, rights to Indiana Jones.

At first i was like
Then I was like
Now I'm like :(

I'd love to have 10 minutes in a closed room with George Lucas just to rip him to shreds.

I always thought they should've made a movie of Shadows of the Empire. The book was cool, the N64 game was pretty cool, and Dash Rendar was badass.

And yes, I'll be anxiously awaiting Episode 7.

don't forget the utter kill-it-with-fire POS that was Indiana Jones 4.

Lucas had to GTFO, plain and simple.

and if you go by precedent, Disney has done great things with Marvel and Pixar.

Could they get Mark hammil, harrison ford and carrie fisher to reprise their roles as luke, han and leia.

That would be awesome.

Please don't mention the movie that must not be named. I would put that as the worst movie I've ever seen in theaters. Look shia labeouf is swinging through the trees with the monkeys! :barf:

I'm just going to have to agree to disagree here. Nostalgic that went very bad for me.

PlumberKhan 10-30-2012 05:16 PM

Good move IMO. George is an old has-been.

The next movie will be better than 1,2 and 3.

it started off bad, but still somewhat promising.

it got progressively worse with every second of Shia Ledouche upstaging Indy at his own game.

it hit full-blown disaster proportions the minute Marion showed up and they tried to play the whole "dysfunctional family" angle.

epic pfailure :shakehead

Aye. Disney may be evil, but they generally don't blow their IP.

I fully expect Star Wars 7 and any future Indy 5 to be far better than theri predecessors.

Fisher might be better suited to play Jabba the Hut (Jr.?) these days

Don't know about Carrie. No amount of plastic surgery or make-up can make her get back at least HALF her original youth. Father-time is a nasty foe.

But as for the rest :

I think they(Disney) can keep things going a bit with Luke(Hamill) and Han(H.Ford) with a sort of what-happened-later after Episode 6. Of course, to compensate for how old they are, they'll make it so that a good 10-15 years have passed or something like that....

Also during that time, the story could begin to introduce some new characters that would become more of the focal point going into episodes 8 and 9.....and so forth.

Just my two cents....

Should be interesting;

guess an old Luke could rebuild the Jedi, who else survived?

could create another new Alderaan with reference to Earth?

or attack the sith empire

Star Trek already went back in time and changed the past

Luke would probably restore/recreate the Jedi Council on Coruscant and would also have created a Jedi Academy there as well. He will be their "Yoda/Obi-Wan" whose 'word' trumps anyone else's.

Han would probably get into trouble again. It always seems to find him. :D

Just my two cents....

They will use CGI for all the main characters and make the movie as if it was made in 1986. No one ages, just use their current voices.

Because the Emperor is dead, because Darth Vader is gone, the Empire is leaderless and splits into three separate entities of evil, each vying for total control of the galaxy.

Jar Jar Binks has been sent back in time to assassinate Han Solo to avenge the death of Jabba The Hut by that little Stokes weasel with the floppy ears.

Episode 7 has to be better then 1,2 and 3.All were garbage.

And let's not bring up the crap that was Indy 4

Disney can do some really cool things with their theme parks with Marvel,StarWars and Indy.
