Revisit: Planned Parenthood in a Post-Obamacare World

Some points first:

Quote:

Planned Parenthood reported receiving a record $542 million in taxpayer support in fiscal 2012, marking a steady increase in government funding despite Republican-led efforts at the state and federal levels to cut off that stream.
Quote:

Planned Parenthood argues that it provides a range of services aside from abortions. The annual report showed the group provided STD treatment and testing for 4.5 million people. Planned Parenthood provided cancer screening and prevention services for 1.3 million people.

The group also provides pregnancy tests and contraceptive services.
Under Obamacare, all are required to purchase Health Insurance or face a penalty.

All Health Insurance is required (at no cost) to provide routine screenings for STD's, Pregnancy Tests, Gynecological Screenings and contraceptive coverage.

So the question needs to be asked again, whay is teh taxpayer giving half a billion dollars to a group whose services (other than abortions) will be 100% covered by the 100% required mandate of Obamacare?

Well, the obvious answer is the ACA individual mandate was not in effect during fiscal year 2012.

As for the long term answer, I expect the Planned Parenthood budget to steadily decrease while ACA policies start to go into effect, but purpose and need of the organization will never go away completely. Despite the ACA individual mandate, there are still going to be a large number of women without private health insurance.

The answer is they are getting a fee for services rendered just like any medical institution that renders medical services to Medicaid or Medicare patients.

I don't wonder what your local hospital got reimbursed for by the government.

Abortions aren't funded by Medicaid or Medicare they are not being reimbursed from the government for those services.

Those are NY State Funds. 15 States cover abortions as part of their State Medicaid funding.
