Mark Teixeira out 8-10 weeks

http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/stor...s-wrist-injury

New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira will miss eight to 10 weeks due to his injured wrist, manager Joe Girardi said Wednesday.

Teixeira strained his wrist Tuesday while taking batting practice with the United States' World Baseball Classic team.

The Yankees initially estimated Teixeira would miss just two weeks. But Wednesday's update indicates that Teixeira will miss the entire month of April and could possibly be sidelined into mid-May.

Wrist injuries. Never good for a hitter.

Even if he comes back in 8-10, it's probably going to affect him all year, at least from one side of the plate.

Perfect, that will put him on pace to be productive when he gets back.

@JonHeymanCBS: teixeira has no tear. the tendon is "stable.'' but he needs 4 weeks off plus 4 weeks rehab. #yankees

It's a scary injury for a powerhitter. Even with that I'm not as down on the Yanks as most people are this year I think Youk is going to turn out to have a big year for us.

It's definitely going to be an interesting first couple of months of the season. Cano is the only real power threat left in the lineup.

gardner, ichiro and jeter are going to have to get on base and make things happen

This is key IMO, a torn tendon would have been disasterous for the season

Trade for Pujols.

Best. Trade. Ever.

Montero would be the best right handed bat on the team right now.

And playing at 1st base. I'm not a big fan of Cashman right now outside of Kuroda and Ibanez all of his moves since 2009 have been suspect. Grandy is gone after this seaso and I know he's produced pretty fantasy stats but so has Austin Jackson at 1/23rd the price.

In the worst hitters park in the entire MLB where it drizzles every day.

And it was his rookie season

But do you think Yankee fans and management would have been patient and let him get 500 AB's?

Why not? I'd rather see a young guy than watch Andrew Freakin Jones ever swing a bat again. Or Russell Martin hit 180 the first half a season.

Not a way you want to start out 2013 season on IR for Teixeira!:(

kennyo7 03-13-2013 11:55 AM

Yankees need to get young. Its time for a full rebuild and Cashman is not the right guy for this. The farm system has been neglected and is void of talent. Guys like Banuelos and Betances were over rated by the organization.

Its beginning to look like the 1987-1992 Yankees. We cant build this team with guys like Andy Hawkins and Dave Lapoint. Go back to what built the dynasty....the farm/young guys
