ALBANY HAS SPOKEN

Firebirds' future up in air
Monday conference will unveil new arena league

Arena Football officials have called a news conference on Monday that will determine whether the Albany Firebirds of arenafootball2 will return for the 2010 season.

"You'll find out Monday," Firebirds owner Walter Robb said when reached at his home Friday night.

Af2 president Jerry Kurz will lead the news conference in Tulsa, Okla., where he will unveil a newly formed league of Arena Football teams. It's unclear whether the Firebirds will be part of that structure.

The Arena Football League folded this year, which left af2's future in question.

Firebirds general manager Garen Szablewski said earlier this month that a new league might be a combination of AFL and af2 franchises.

The Firebirds, who just completed their eighth season, have struggled financially.
