The major difference is that he is guaranteed for 2 years now. Before the extension, the Jets could have cut his underachieving ass at the end of 2012 with little cap consequence beyond the nominal 5th year of amortization of his original signing bonus. Now it will cost them an extra $8 million in cap space beyond that to let him go at the end of 2012. Moot point if he plays well, but if he sucks yet again we may be scratching our heads wondering if the $6.4 million in 2012 cap savings was worth having to keep Sanchez another year or losing $8 million guaranteed in cap money for 2013 if he is released anyway.
