He's not hiding he was banished/betrayed by his father. you have to back to the season 1 ep 9 (i think) during the drinking game where Tywin confesses about his previous marriage, there is a lot going on with that character/family. If you rewatch you see why he was stripped of all his power.

Robb Stark is in major trouble going back on his word for her. And the Imp will only grow in power. He is the smartest guy in the show in this game of politics.
