Good friend of mine did something quite similar years ago. Stopped listening/watching/reading the news. Decided to try to enjoy the far better things in life. He's much happier now.
The wife and I used to be huge poli-TV watchers, I remember vividly sitting in front of the TV as the chads were counted, the whole Clinton thing, all of that crap. Used to really get nutz about all of that stuff.

After my wife passed away in 2004, I became basically apolitical. Never again turned on FOX News or Hannity or CNBC or any of those shows. Haven't watched the "News" in years, haven't watched a political debate since 2004, when I pick up the paper it's for (i) sports and (ii) leisure (and just for the comics, movies, books, entertainment and food--none of the personal story-puff pieces).

I still have no idea what the deal is with hoodie sweatshirts, some of the biggest news stories I have intentionally turned a blind eye to. Not all of them, but a lot of the white noise I've just filtered out.

But all the political stuff is just the worst. Not worth getting agitated over.
