Despite playing just 29 games in four NFL seasons, Carolina Panthers offensive tackle Jeff Otah is more beat up than a driver's ed car.
Fortunately, Otah – at least for the time being – should be ready to go for the 2012 season. After developing swelling around his left knee at OTAs, the 6-foot-6, 330 pounder's MRI came back OK, according to head coach Ron Rivera.
Last season, Otah played in just four games before being placed on injured reserve with a slew of knee and back problems. Otah has missed 31 of the past 35 regular-season games and has had two surgeries on his left knee.
Byron Bell, who filled in for Otah as a rookie last season, played exceptionally well in his place. He has been working with the first team at right tackle at OTAs.
Otah's status for the remainder of OTAs and next week's minicamp is still up in the air.
