So the current group of players the Jets have will magically become better at tackling and blocking simply by changing the head coach?

Rex is considered a defensive genius, yet his Defense has gotten worse every year.

Of course the fact that the talent in the defense has declined may be also be factor as well perhaps?
And 'gotten worse every year' is a bit stretch when talking about 2009 to 2010. The defense 'regressed' from going 1st in the NFL to 3rd. A decline in 2011 was inevitable considering how high the Jets were ranked the previous two years.
Rex has the worst starting linebacking corps in the NFL. The roster is completely devoid of pass rushers. His top sack leader is Bryan Thomas with 2.5 sacks.
Need talent on the roster to be an upper echelon defense. Coaching only takes you so far.
The other defensive genius in Foxboro hasn't had anything better than an average defense in the last 4 years.

Why wasnt Sanchez benched earlier to send a message?

Sanchez sucks but so do McElroy and Tebow. Tebow is basically a left handed version of Sanchez that can run and McElroy has neither the arm or athleticism to be a viable long term solution. With his contract and no long term solutions in Tebow and McElroy I can understand Rex sticking with Sanchez even if I disagree with it.
I'd love to see the coach that would make this roster a contender, any coach who could have surpassed 8-8 with this roster would have been a miracle worker. Worst starting QB in the NFL, no pass rushers, no LB's, and no RB's on the roster that are any better than JAGs.
Rex isn't without his faults but the main culprit of this mess is Tannenbaum.
