I see no problem with this. I think Rex has made lots of mistakes but I can't fault the guy for taking some time off.
Besides, in keeping with Rex logic (jokingly)
Rex feels that this is the last vacation he will get around the holidays for the next few years since next year's team will be the best ever and get him to the Super Bowl for the foreseeable future.
