The Problem is the drafting strategy
The NYJets went out an hired a defensive minded HC who prefers to run the ball play great defense which in itself is a sound strategy. In the initial stages of the program, the running game works to perfection due to the scheme and the power provided from the Right Side of the OL behind Damien Woody, Brandon Moore and Nick Mangold. The problem occurs when two of those OL got old and needed to be replaced. Combined that with an OLT who can't run block, a starting TE who's even worst and the lost of the RBs who powered the scheme and you have a problem.
Throw in a mistake prone QB who the HC will not allow his OC to develop through mistakes and the end result is what u have today. The Jets run a multiple formation defense base out of a 34 scheme , yet have no OLBers who can rush the passer. Instead this team drafts DLmen in the early rounds. The Jets run a ground and pound offense yet have no feature RB,no Blocking TE and a bunch of OLmen who specialize in nothing in perticular.
The problem is this team has no direction and that is why Mike Tannenbaum is history and the Jets are today searching for direction. It has nothing to do with Favre or Holmes or Sanchez or any of the players on the team. The problem is the draft and free agent strategy.
The Pittsburg Steelers run a 34 defense, and all they do is draft players that fit their scheme. If u are going to run a 34 defense, you don't draft Vilma because he's the BAP.
The last time this Jet franchise had direction was under Herman Edwards and Terry Bradway. The problem was the QB just couldn't stay healthy and was limited in what he could do due to his arm strength. Maybe Just Maybe, under the New GM we can get back to Having A Plan.
