we've had five dogs, and only one died at home. she had cancer and our vet said she would live 4 to 6 weeks. she lived for about three years. every year my goal was for her to live until Christmas. last year she hung on for me until three days after Christmas. she died in my wife's arms at 4:30 pm -. she even gave us half an hour to get her to the vet's office which closed at 5 pm so we wouldn't have to keep her over night.
believe me, having a dog lay down and pass on is the best thing that can happen and I really believe my dog and yours did this for our benefit. there is nothing worse than loading the dog in the car knowing you won't be bringing him/her home. not to mention the time at the vet and the terrible drive home. your dog died in peace in a loved place.
wish I could give you a hug right now.
