I agree, Little Italy IS just for tourists. You should go there for dessert, pastry and cappuccino. There is a small gelateria around Spring St. and Mulberry that is great - the owners are young and from Italy. For pizza, not close to the best in the world - someone must not have been to Italy and New Haven, for that matter.

Bar Piti is on the corner of 6th and Bleecker. It's a casual restaurant and the owner is from Florence, Italy. Excellent and not overpriced. Just my two cents...
