Because if he has a good year and proves himself free of the injury he might have some degree of trade value....which at the moment is probably less than zilch.
We also need guys to take the pressure off Hill and any other young WR as they develop.Kerley doesn't need the reps(and do you really want him to have such a monstrous season that he decides he deserves to get paid in 2014?)
Hill needs to be allowed to come along gradually and not have to be 'the guy'
If we made a huge saving by cutting Holmes then fine,but we don't,so might as well make the fkr work for his money...if he'd rather be elsewhere...tough.
