Watch where you eat!

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- A local man's lunch at a Murfreesboro sandwich shop wound up costing him way more than he thought it would.

The cost of a $10 tuna melt was charged last week as $10,000, causing big headaches for Ben Chemay. The cost of Chemay's sandwich at Roly Poly sandwich shop was $9, and he left a $1 tip. The tip is what led to the trouble. Instead of entering $1 for the tip, the worker entered $10,024.75. That figure ended up being charged to Chemay's bank account.

The store's owner told Channel 4 he made an honest mistake. "To be that far in the negative, I absolutely panicked. I was moneyless. I couldn't get gas, food. My card was frozen for six days," said Chemay. He called the restaurant, and the owner of the store realized the mistake. He called his bank as well, but it still took more than a week to sort out the problem.
That delay gave Chemay a big lesson after his expensive lunch.

"Maybe if I would have caught it when it was pending, then I could have done something about it, but I didn't. I would just keep an eye on your account as often as you can. You never know when you can get a $10,000 sandwich," said Chemay. Chemay got his money back but also racked up about $400 in return check and overdraft fees. His bank eventually cleared up those charges as well.

Same thing happened to a friend. He couldn't get cash for like a week. Luckily the restaurant was a mom and pop opertion and they lent him some cash to make it through.

Yeah, but they had a lot of cash on hand due to having charged him $$$.
