Why are there no Friday or Saturday night games?
Weekend nights would be perfect for football. No work the next day. Nothing else on TV to compete for ratings.

There's some kind of handshake agreement so they're not competing with the NCAA or HS football during their seasons. You usually see a couple Saturday Night games in December though after the NCAA regular season has concluded.

I can't believe no one has mentioned this yet.....
The NFL doesn't want to compete with HS or College Football. Something about a handshake agreement. |

Ratings perhaps.
Historically, the lowest rated nights of the week are Friday and Saturday. |

there is a good reason for this agreement.
the colleges provide a free minor development league for the NFL. Plus NFL scouts are allowed on college fields to measure, test and work out prospects for the draft. The quid pro quo for this system is that the NFL doesn't play Friday games or Saturday games until the college regular season is concluded and the NFL has the rule about players completing 3 years of eligibility before being draft eligible which keeps players playing for free in the NCAA system |

Fvck the people over? Really? You asked why and got the answer. Whether it's right or wrong is a different question. But if you're hoping or asking for a change, forget it. Not only would it NOT work to have teams play a schedule outside of games one week apart (Wed, thurs, friday, sat & sun) but ratings prove that people don't want it. And what does the state where colleges and pro teams are have to do with TV? |

Agreed college and HS effect this for sure, but also its a marketing thing. Everybody knows that the NFL games are on sunday, no need to check the schedule for dates, you play sunday or in the one game on monday night. It may not seem like a big deal but it is, before the season NFL fans let their families and friends know sunday is off limits, sunday is a day for church/rest - nothing else happens on sundays, NFL owns sunday. This is a huge deal, for example - I have absolutely no idea when the first CFL game will be this year, will it be thursday? Friday? Saturday? its not set on a concrete schedule like the nfl is, and no matter how you slice it, this makes the CFL games/league harder to follow. Its an amazing approach/insight that the NFL uses and other sports have a hard time doing it because they have such long seasons... But this is a big reason why the NFL is so popular - they own sunday. |

Not sure I understand your point about scheduling. I don't see how it matters what non-Sunday day a team plays on. |

College football is monster Nationally. NFL has no desire to compete with it. Why should they it would just be bad business. An early season sample of the ratings s. ABC’s Saturday Night College Football game featuring the Texas Longhorns revenge match against the Texas Tech Red Raiders was more than enough to put the network atop the Saturday night TV ratings. While it wasn’t up to the level of the season opening Alabama/Virginia Tech’s 2.4 adults 18-49 rating, the Texas/Texas Tech game’s 2.0 18-49 rating put it comfortably above the unscripted and repeat competition on the night. Fox’s reality crime duo of Cops and America’s Most Wanted was reliably in second. Not many tuned in for the repeats of the new Survivor: Samoa or Community, I’m not sure that’s particularly meaningful for either show. Time Net Show 18-49 Rating 18-49 Share Viewers Live+SD (million) 8:00 ABC College Football (Texas v.
