Is there a hungrier fan right now in all of sports than a Jet fan?
No wise cracks, but we have been starving for this since the end of the 98 season, the excitement level is sky high right now and I think we will carry this momentum all the way through training camp with Hardknocks. I don't think Woody and Tanny are through putting together this team yet, there will be a few more tweaks before the season starts. What a change from the Leon Hess days when it seemed like we were content to lose year after year, Woody wants to win the whole thing and is allowing his GM to be bold.
I ask will there be a more rabid fan than a Jet fan when we start winning big this season? When that stadium gets filled to capacity on that first Monday Night game against whomever, do you want to be that away team? Don't underestimate the psychological effect this will have on the players, knowing the time is now and it's on their shoulders to put out their best every single down. I love the way Woody has come out doggedly to defend the Jets in the coin toss incident, we will not be the laughing stock and believe me this attitude trickles down all the way to the players and the fans. We haven't won anything yet I know, but I can't remember ever being this high on the Jets before, not even 99 compares to this... Maybe 82 when we beat the Raiders, but never this high in the offseason, ever! Last edited by Slikmojet; 04-16-2010 at 01:14 PM. |

I would say Cleveland Cavaliers fans are probably hungrier. But yeah, collectively, this fan base is anxious and excited.

Their commitment level as an organization is nowhere near where the Jets are at, it's obvious the Jets brass thinks we can win it all this year... Detroit? |

But the Lions fans have never really had anything to look forward to outside of the Barry days, they just flat out suck but they are getting better. We on the other hand have been real close a couple times but this is the TEAM, I can feel it :D |

I have been working out on that "Wii Fit" thing, and now I can't stop craving bagels and schmear. And I've had to move to industrial-strength schmear! |

I can't stop thinking about this team; daydreams come at the oddest times. We are finally a loaded team; just like the ones I used to watch out here in San Fran. I moved here in 1984 from LI; right when the Jets looked loaded again. Then I saw how a really loaded team like the Niners did their business...I am seeing the same from Rex and Tanny today. I am hungry! I am Jets fan! :D |

You mentioned the '83 and '99 seasons as comparable to the expectations we have this coming September. Can't say I disagree, since I vividly recall those past offseasons and how jacked I was, same as now.
But let's not lose sight of how those campaigns went so horribly bad. In '99 it was a key injury in Game 1, with no back-up plan in place. The result: season over before we ever knew what hit us. The Jets had better get someone holding a clipboard who is more capable than who we have in reserve now. In '83 (following the AFC Championship appearence in the Mud the previous January), everything was in place. Sack Exchange, terrific O-line, running game, receivers, specials, all top-notch and healthy. And yet...I witnessed every agonizing game in which somehow the Jets would find new and innovative ways to lose games against opponents they were clearly better than, on the way to a 7-9 finish. To this day, the most gut-wrenching of all Jets seasons dating back to 1972. Point being, I've been down the Expectations road before, albeit very briefly. And because of what's come before, I'll grade myself cautiously optimistic starting this September. |

Nothing went right that season; I felt so bad, I thought Manhattan was a prison. McNeil injured himself having to do it all...the worst I have felt; kept going back to the mud bowl and asking WHY? WHY? Walton is a fine human, but he was the death knell for Walt Michaels' Jets. |

I think the hunger is a constant for us as Jets fans. I'll go with somewhere between cautiously optimistic and excited. Have my heart broken a few too many times to get too excited.

Cleveland is definitely the hungriest right now. That's a city with no rings in any sport for 50 years. Now they're the favorite to win the NBA championship. The next 2 months will be almost unbearable. If they're pushed to any game 7's, that crowd will literally rock the house. They're playing for more than a championship too. If they win, there's no chance that Lebron leaves, ever.
