TE Ben Hartsock cut
The Jets announced that they have waived LB Vernon Gholston and terminated the contract of TE Ben Hartsock.
The only plays I remember the guy making was offsides at a crucial time. He wasn't a bad guy, I just think not so good a player. |

Hartsock was a great blocker and ok receiver, we just never used him in that fashion. Hopefully Mulligan can be his equal as a blcoker. |

thank god
1. didnt catch the ball the few times it was thrown to him 2. got called for holding numerous times when he was supposed to be blocking tight end 3. got in the way of our running backs as they were about to break long runs. |

One business book called those "Moments of Truth". It described it as crucial points when you need to come through for a customer. I just don't remember any "Moments of Truth" for Hartsock, just the opposite. For example, I remember other guys blowing plays, but also remember good plays too. I only remember one good play for Harstock, a TD off a play action on the goal line. But he did that illegal motion more than once at a crucial time. |

This - an excellent blocker, but no better than an extra OT in the passing game, which is why we brought hunter in as TE2 so often - if all the guy's going to be is a glorified OT . . . bring in an actual OT. |

He actually was a great blocker but athletically very limited. With Sanchez developing rapidly, we need more active weapons in the passing game |

He was, IMO, the worst 2nd TE in the entire league.
Utterly worthless and had no business getting regular playing time on a playoff team. Any street free agent could have offered the Jets more in the passing game. He's a good blocker, but not as good as an extra OL, so what's the point in even having a guy like this? Well, apparently, there is none. And he's finally gone. Watch the passing game open once they have someone who is a threat to catch a pass as a 2nd TE. Last edited by TheMikeIsHot; 03-03-2011 at 05:59 AM. |

Hartsock is easily replaceable with a large bag of dog kibble.

I feel bad for him as a person, it's not easy losing a job. He seemed like a good guy, hard working, etc., so I won't rank on him. But he just didn't seem to come through as a player, rather just the opposite.

He was a good blocker, but nothing in his game showed me that he was either good at getting open or that he would make a tough catch. In fact, I am pretty sure he is one of the worst pass catching TEs in the league. And when you are a TE that comes in a couple of times a game to block, you better not make boneheaded mistakes. |
