Kiper Mock 1.0
Kiper's first mock of the season. I'd be thrilled with Barron going to the Jets.

mark barron to the Jets is a lazy pick.
it's the pick people make when they don't want to use their brains. JMO Barron is a very good strong safety who probably isn't worth a mid 1st. He's not Ed Reed. and for the sake of argument, let's say he is worth that pick, what in the Jets history says they prioritize the safety position such to use a mid first on him? Rex doesn't care he will find safeties on the scrap heap, that's kind of how we got to this situation in the first place. it's similar to his Kuechly pick at 15. Andy Reid never drafts LB in rd 1 no matter how dire the LB situation. Why is this year any different? Last edited by bitonti; 01-18-2012 at 02:58 PM. |

Is Barron worth a #1 pick if the Jets trade back into the 20's and pick up
an extra #2 or #3??? |

unless Rex is leaving the team why would the Jets change the way they play defense? |

A number of these draft boards have Barron ranked higher than the 16th player...

it also assumes the jets won't get a safety in FA or rounds 2 and on. i just don't see them using a mid 1st rounder on a S who isn't a pure ballhawk. for a team that had major issues protecting the qb and needs a 3 down pass rusher, drafting a safety in round 1 is inefficient use of the pick.

I wouldn't be upset with this pick, but it isn't very exciting. Barron, IMO, is a little overrated and isn't as good in coverage as you'd like out of a mid-1st round safety.
If Alshon runs in the 4.5s, he will go much higher than this. The only way he slides that far down is if he has a brutal combine, comes in heavy and runs slow. |

that's many people suspect will happen. I dont even have him in my rd1 mock right now. He's more of a top 100 or top 50 guy not a top 20 guy.

If he runs a 4.63 at 241, he's a late 2nd rounder. No big deal. But with high 4.4, low 4.5 speed he is absolutely a top 20 talent. His biggest problem this season was that they had nothing at QB. Last edited by TheMikeIsHot; 01-18-2012 at 04:14 PM. |

there's a phrase "looks slow on tape" sometimes that's all it takes. Jeffery looks like a long strider on tape. I don't know how kind the 40 yard dash will be to him. Especially cause he's weighing about as much as a tight end or linebacker. |

Have to think if an OLB is not in play, Barron could be the pick |

Normally I'd say Kibers is just showing his lack of football knowledge but there is really nothing bold here. I dont really like it but it is about average. That is a step up for this bum. The only real shock here is him having Brown fall as far as he did.

would not be happy with the pick if we leave Perry, Ingram, and Floyd on the board.

Ed Reed had 19 Int 4 TD in 3 years Mark Barron had 12 INT 1 TD in 4 years I don't think their production is comparable. |

I'd hate it if the first 15 picks unfolded like this. I'd hope the Jets would either take Floyd or trade down with say a WR needy team like Chicago and then take Barron or Burfict. I just don't see much value in taking a safety that high.

And even when they had the chance to draft Ed Reed, the Jets took the OLB in Bryan Thomas Still hurts to say that |
