Pats preparing for Mario, sign Lloyd and Gonzalez
Pats signing will allow an open running game along with their TE package which they love. We need to sign speedy linebackers in a hurry.
Per Espn: The New England Patriots have reached an agreement with free agent wide receiver Brandon Lloyd, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Lloyd was traded by Denver to St. Louis last season after the Broncos made the switch to Tim Tebow at quarterback. In 11 games with the Rams after the trade, Lloyd caught 51 passes for 683 yards and five touchdowns. In 2010, Lloyd led the league with 1,448 yards receiving, when he caught 77 passes, 11 of them for touchdowns. Josh McDaniels, the Patriots' offensive coordinator, was Lloyd's head coach in Denver. The 30-year-old receiver has played for five teams in his nine-season career. The 49ers originally selected him in the fourth round of the 2003 draft. Lloyd is the second receiver signed by New England on Saturday, after former Colts wideout Anthony Gonzalez. The Patriots also agreed to a deal with former Raiders defensive end Trevor Scott, a league source told Schefter. |

Yes, NEWSFLASH - The NFL has become a passing league.
Look, success in the NFL is determined the same way it always has, protect OUR QB and get to THEIR QB. Nothing new here. |

Hence the need for qb killers either in-house, in FA, and in the draft. Was hoping we could somehow sign Wimbley. Good thing that the draft has quite a few nice pass rushing prospects

It wasnt in the playoffs. They let them play. Especially the Pat DBs and 49er DBs. Hopefully we will see some more of that in the regular season. I think even the NFL thinks it has gone a little too far. |

Lloyd was brought in because he's a guy who can consistently beat the kind of tough press coverage that the Pats started to see at the end of the season. Branch is great against zones, but struggles badly when it gets physical. He's not a burner (4.6) but does well down field as his 15+ ypc indicates. He'll open up the middle more than Branch or Ocho did last season.
Its a decent signing, but it in the long run, it will make the Pats offense different, and perhaps more efficient, but at over 5,200 passing yds last season, its going to be very difficult to think he'd make it "better". The Gonzales signing was kind of a surprise to me that they'd sign a guy who has barely played for 2 years this early in the process. Even though he was a first round talent, I would have thought that he'd be the kind of guy who you'd sign after the draft. At any rate, its a low cost hit or miss signing, who, if he makes the roster will improve the depth at WR, and be there when Welker/and or Lloyd hit the wall. File under - "can't hurt" Now if they add a developmental WR from the draft (Marvin Jones, Streeter, McNutt) It will be a deep and improved WR corps Now the Pats have to add a 3rd TE, and draft for defense with 5 picks in the first 3 rounds |

passing league in the regular season only.
once you hit the playoffs you better play defense. Pats are set up to carve through the regular season much as the colts were with manning. However, we see what has happened to them since 2004, nothing. You win championships with defense and a good running game, that will never change. |

Your generalization really doesn't hold true at all. An elite pass-rush, however, CAN win you a championship. Last edited by ASG0531; 03-18-2012 at 12:16 PM. |

After 10 years of his trade down $hit, I'm hoping he either trades up (DE/OLB, CB or WR) or uses the 5 picks. WTF does 332 draft picks in 2022 do for the Pats next year? |

Brady's arm is shot? What is it tired from throwing for over 5000 yards last year? Another delusional fan. |

This stuff is hilarious. Brady's arm is shot? He was only the 3rd QB to throw for 5,000 yards in the history of the NFL. Delusional Jets fans are funny. |

If Gonzo can't win a starting spot in this aging group he should just go home in shame. Lloyd is a downgrade over Branch IMO. Both are over the hill as a pro. If Ocho or Branch even make that team I will laugh. The Pats continue to stiff Brady in the WR department. :D

Do you even watch football? Brandon Lloyd caught 77 passes for a league leading 1,400 yards in 2010 under Josh McDaniels in Denver. He is only 30 years old, what do you think he will do with Brady throwing the football? A downgrade over Branch????????????? |
