Peter King has us taking Poe
God help us if Tanny takes another physical freak who can't play football, like, say, Vernon Ghoslton. Please, Tanny- NO POE!
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/peter_king/04/20/mock.draft/index.html
Rex Ryan's gleeful. Deep down he knows Poe has a chance to be another Haloti Ngata, a freakishly talented interior force against the run and pass. But Poe isn't known for being freakishly productive -- five sacks in three years at Memphis -- and Ryan and coordinator Mike Pettine will have their work cut out to make him a top NFL starter. I actually don't hate the pick. Ngata played DE in Baltimore for most of his career. Poe would be lined up next to Pouha which would make blocking both of them a tall task. This is definitely not a need pick but if Poe is anything close to Ngata it would be a coup.

Poe had one sack at Memphis last year. One. He's an athlete, not a football player.

Come on. If there is any cosmic plan at all, the Ravens have got to draft Poe.

Right. Let's pass on that Jerry Rice kid. Nobody good could come from Mississippi Valley State. Oh...except Deacon Jones. There's going to be an exception to every rule. |

Why not bring up Walter Payton? I'd rather have more certainty with our first pick. Gholsten had plenty of negative work ethic reports.... |

There are more stars from big schools because they recruit the best H.S. players so it's going to be much rarer for a small school player to be great. But great is great. I wouldn't knock a draft grade down that much on a small school kid if he is obviously a stud. Take Randy Moss. Even with the red flags, he was a lightning rod of debate in his draft. And let's not get started on whether Marshall is a football powerhouse...not on this board at least. I actually wonder if the bust rate for small school players picked in the first round is lower than big school players because they are probably vetted so much more carefully, given the increased risk. |

POE is NOT obvious. Nor was VLAD. All else equal, Smaller school is a tougher road to NFL and a 1st rounder on a REACH is not smart IMO. YES...the Kleckos are out there..... Better with a late round pick is all. I would argue that Pennington was a waste of a 1st round pick. |

??? Neither of those players where reaches. Wilk had a 1-2 grade and Vlad had a 2-3 round grade. Hard as it may seem to believe Vlad was actually a hot pick at the time because OL where flying off the board. Poe I hope we pass on. NT is not a 1st round position and he is not Nagata. We already signed Pouha and Ellis is a better NT prospect IMO. He was a drop for us because he had other issues. So NT is not a prime need ATM and if we are looking for DE there are much better options at 16. If he dropped to us in the 2nd OK but at 16 it just seems too much of a jump for a non need. But I say the same thing of Barron who a lot here are projecting. I'll pass on jumping a little early on either for the BPA. Which will not be them. Last edited by Dreamers; 04-21-2012 at 06:47 PM. |
