#Jets will sign free agent offensive linemen Stephon Heyer + Ray Willis
http://twitter.com/#!/TheJetsStream
Stephon Heyer has started 33 games in his four year career and brings experience, toughness and attitude to the offensive line. He is big physical tackle with limited athleticism. He wins with effort, technique and power when he is able to engage early in the play. Heyer lacks great lateral agility and balance which hinders his ability on backside blocks and on the second level. He understands angles and ability to leverage defenders at the point of attack. Heyer has improved his hand use and can adjust to twists and counters when out of position. With a high profile draft pick at his position, Stephon Heyer may be relegated to a backup role but will provide excellent depth along the offensive line. Ray Willis Seattle Seahawks He started at both right guard and right tackle for Seattle. He is known as a good run blocker. He re-signed with the team on March 6, 2008 and then again on March 9, 2009.[1] Miami DolphinsOn August 5, 2011, Willis signed with the Miami Dolphins.Willis's contract was terminated by the Dolphins on September 3.[2] New Orleans SaintsWillis signed with the New Orleans Saints on November 2, 2011. New York JetsWillis signed with the New York Jets Last edited by sect313; 05-29-2012 at 12:36 PM. |

I've heard of Willis, but couldn't really say if he's an upgrade to Hunter.
At least there's competition now... |

Its about having depth and options along the offensive line. The Jets clearly do not want to be in the situation they were in last season where they had no options when guys got hurt or performed badly.

Wait, I thought that the offseason ended with the draft?
Thought the Jets wouldn't address the OL until 2013:eek: |

Between Hunter, Ducasse, Willis, Heyer someone has to float to the top as a starter, right?

Better than signing Shank. And, also, better depth to have than the bust POS Ducasse.

Can our resident Raider fan give us any information on Heyer?
I know he was only there for a year, but might as well ask. |

Based on their size Heyer is more of an OT and Willis is more of an G/C.
Two relatively young O-linemen who have started a number of games. Nothing wrong with having them in camp for competition and potential depth |

I like that the Jets don't draft/sign small in the trenches anymore. In my opinion, size/power matters most there.

Most importantly, the Jets are signing guys with starting experience, not the Colin Baxters / Caleb Schaprekklsdjasdfrsopiuses of the world. |

Agreed, but it's really just the replacement of one guy that's been the problem. Damien Woody was very dependable and was an earth-mover for the running game. We can easily have a Top 10 O-line once we seat a capable RT. |

Comparing a couple of minor OL signings to our punter is a bit of a stretch, doncha think? |
