Eric Smith suffered a MCL injury. Out for the rest of the preseason.

Source: Eric Smith suffered a MCL injury to his left knee. Out for the rest of the preseason.

The Jets are hoping that Eric Smith (MCL) will be back for the start of the regular season, I'm told.

Eric Smith had a MRI on his hip, which revealed no structural damage. His MCL sprain is the bigger concern. Jets are thin at safety.

Sounds about right.

I sprained my left MCL 4 weeks ago and it's pretty much back to normal.

Very annoying injury, thought I'd need surgery.

MCL sprain (if it's not a complete tear) usually doesn't need the arthroscope and can be back to normal in 3-5 weeks with physical therapy

I think the concern over depth is more to do with experience - however, I'm quite happy to start a promising rookie over a 'proven' veteran who is a JAG and who has no upside.

If Smith's injury forces Allen more into the rotation, them it could turn out to be a good thing.

Glad to hear it isn't too serious and wish him a speedy recovery. Eric is blueblood NY Jet & solid utility that Westhoff had a hand in developing. Solid seven years of service out of a 3rd round draft speaks volumes for the coaching staff. Hope to see him back on the field soon.

Here's hoping that GS3 under center, and Coples on the edge works out.

How does that suck?

Eric Smith is worthless to this defense. He can contribute on ST but he should never touch the field on defense.

If a certain new Denver Bronco doesn't pass his physical, there's someone you can call.

the crawl on NFLN beneath the Panther-Texan game is saying

"Eric Smith has a torn MCL and is out for the SEASON"

hopefully, the geniuses at NFLN just got their crawl wrong

Well he is a vet that knows the defense as well as anyone one the team so he will be able to get right back in it when he recovers. If it were Landry or bell or one of the rookies it would have been a worse situation.
