Wow, does he get any money from an injury settlement? What a complete and utter shame for him.

One of the bitter realities of the NFL.

Hope we have him back in camp next year.

Mehta: Jets waive TE Josh Baker

The Jets waived tight end Josh Baker after he suffered a season-ending knee injury in Sunday night's loss to the Panthers.

The Daily News first reported on Monday morning that Baker suffered at least a torn right ACL that will sideline him for the season. Baker had a MRI on Monday to confirm the diagnosis. His agent, Howard Shatsky, later twetted the the Jets were waiving Baker.

"The NY Jets r waiving-injured TE Josh Baker, he'll revert 2 their IR List. Josh would like 2 thank the Jets 4 the opportunity they gave him," Shatsky tweeted.

Baker suffered the injury in the end zone when a Carolina defensive back Josh Norman's helmet collided with Baker's knee. He was down for several minutes before getting helped off the field without being able to put weight on his leg.

"Thanks for everyone's prayers," Baker tweeted on Sunday night. "My road has never been easy just another speed bump."

It's a fairly important injury for offensive coordinator Tony Sparano, who planned on using mutliple tight end sets this season.

If he goes unclaimed, I believe we can put him on injured reserve.

Knew it when I saw it live. Feel for Baker, dude seems like a hardworker and had big things in store this season.

Tanny needs to be on the phone now trying to find replacements.

They weren't going to keep him on IR at this point. Hopefully for him it isn't career threatning..

So disappointing.

Was really looking forward to him finally getting a well deserved legitimate role on offense.

Procedural move. You can't put a non-vested player with fewer than 4 years experience on IR in preseason without passing him through waivers first. Hopefully, he clears waivers and reverts to IR for the year to rehab while getting paid.

Sucks for him, he was looking good late last year and so far this preseason.

Usually the full base, unless he has a "split" contract which essentially cuts salary in half if not on the active roster.

So if a player had a 3M contract base salary he'd get the whole thing ? I thought maybe they'd just be paid the vet minimum and give him access to the club doctors & training staff.

How common are split contracts ?

I thought that the hit on Baker was illegal too.
