Post New Story: More of the Same from Jets

The Jets reportedly met with 2011 Heisman Trophy finalist Tyrann Mathieu on Monday at the Senior Bowl according to multiple outlets. Mathieu was was dismissed from LSU this past summer repeatedly violating team rules, more specifically, violating the team's substance abuse policy for athletes.

After returning to LSU as only a student, Mathieu was arrested in October for marijuana possession which all but ended any possible return to the team.

Mathieu's talent is not to be ignored, as he was the MVP of the 2011 SEC Championship game, to go along with the aforementioned multiple individual awards and other individual defense awards.

Disagree if at the right price. We saw Vontaze Burfict go to the Bengals, a team also with a history of personnel problems, and that turned out fine.

Exactly what I was going to post. Dude was their LEADING TACKLER.

The Jets need to look everywhere they can to find value and I have no problem with this. Assuming our secondary is Revis, Bell, Wilson and Cro - whatever DB that comes in is coming into a veteran group that's plenty able to set the tone of how things should be done.

Jets haven't really hit on a 6/7th rounder in a long time. I'd have no issues taking him there, if he's even still around.

Don't understand the premise of this "article."

I'm sure Idzik is simply doing his due diligence.

If they plan on taking him in the 1st round, then maybe there's cause for alarm.

If he is there in the 5th round, you definitely have to consider him. The guy is a top 10 draft pick if not for the off the field issues. Not 100% sure what the issues were, other than smoking weed, which I dont consider to be THAT big a deal.

The Patriots had a CB playing for them Sunday that shot a gun at his sister's boyfriend. If he was a better shot, he'd be a murderer.

Glad to see Idzik doing his "due-diligence" or whatever you call it. Just dont let the honey badger end up in Foxboro!!!

Who was the dude we were worried about when they snagged him last off-season and then he went out and got hurt? Small fast guy.

We drafted Kyle Brady (I believe) over Warren Sapp , all because Sapp supposedly smoked a little weed.

Which by the way is now legal in certain states.

+1. for the record, I was all for the Jets drafting Burfict anywhere in rounds 5-7.

Also, NE, Pitt and Baltimore all have had players with off-field issues. So the case that those organizations have strong upper management is just b/s.

Exactly. Just because those teams have supposed 'strong upper management' has not kept them from making mistakes, but at least they are taking calculated risks. We don't need a team of choir boys. The Steelers drafted Chris Rainey just last year and already had to cut him. When they drafted Santonio, he had some off the field issues and again ran into legal issues about a month after the draft. They continue to take chances where they feel they can. Baltimore took Jimmy Smith a few years ago from Colorado who had some drug test and other issues. That hasn't worked out yet, but may in the future.

New England drafted Aaron Hernandez who had reportedly failed some drug tests in college and we know too well how that is panning out. Why should the Jets and the rest of the NFL let these types of players continue to go to these teams. Just last year, the Rams took Janoris Jenkins in the second round and that looks like a steal at this point.

What's the harm in picking the guy up for a song? Incentive laden that states very specifically that the Jets can drop him at any time if he f*cks up and no cap harm.

I would be all for that. Who knows? Maybe the Jets can catch lightning in a bottle.

Jets need to pull out all the stops to acquire talent on this team. Cause FA signings are mostly going to be cosmetic at best.

Visiting Mary Jane once in a while doesn't mean he's a bad character. It's a bad choice though... if you want to have a career in the NFL.

Mathieu is talented. He could be a huge impact player, with Rex and Thurman coaching him. Oh...and Tim McDonald will soon be announced as the new Jets DB coach. A former six time Pro Bowler for the 49ers.

If Idzik drafts Tyrann...does this signal a possible departure of either Revis or Cro?

Could be.
