The myth that Revis is not a team player

I can only shake my head about how people label Revis a me first player and say he is not a team player. Who of us would not look out for the best deal/contract when we know that we are a once in a lifetime player? It is completely fine for him to ask for the most money he can get, that is the business. So looking for the money that he deserves does not make him a team player?! Yeah right.

More important though is the fact that he has always been a class act off the field and great representative of the Jets through the media or wherever he appeared. We didnt get any scandals, off the field issues or character concerns. And he has actually been a GREAT TEAMMATE throughout his entire career with the Jets. There were numerous comments from players who said that Revis went out of his way to help them with their games, be it in the summer (Wilson) or even when he was injured (Cromartie). He is not some ego driven guy who only cares for himself.

Mevis is absolutely a me-first player. And that's fine, because he's the best at what he does. If Kyle Wilson held out like Revis has, though, you'd be hounding him for being so selfish.

I guess his holdouts have annoyed some but that's part of the league.

When it comes to playing he cannot be short changed. You don't play great from being lazy. He works hard and isn't a jerk off the field either. Well respected in the locker room as well. All that sure sounds like a "me" player...

OK so what are you saying? If Revis sucked and held out he's selfish but since he's great it's "fine" to hold out?

I'm saying that his selfishness is tolerated because he's the absolute best at his position.

Instead of honoring his contract and joining his team, he held out. Threatened it again last year.

We can make all the excuses we want about him, but he is about $ first.

He is a team player when it is convenient for him.

I agree with you 100%!!!!!

When the average length of NFL career is only 3 and half years , fans begrudge players trying to get as much money as they can.

Where is this same fan outrage with say the pentagon's admission that they can't locate over 2.3 Trillion Dollars that has been given to them and those are the public's, the fans funds. This all the while our military personnel are not being properly cared for and more returning veterans are commuting suicide then have been killed in any conflict !!!.

Indeed these same "fans" are out here bashing players from bringing suits do to the catastrophic brain injuries that they have sustained.

I have seen no collections for these players but I have heard "they knew what they were getting into". So I don't begrudge the players or Revis from doing all he can to make his money so long as they perform on the field.

Revis is not acting much differently than any other player in the league...to say that he is not a team player is....idiotic.

Revis has never missed a game due to his holdouts. He seems to always show up. I don't care if he ever goes to practice or training camp. To call him mevis is the most idiotic thing I think I have ever heard. Well, along with people chanting for McElroy. If you are the best at your position, you should get paid for it. He outperformed his rookie contract. He deserved a new one and now deserves another.

Actually he is a team player once he is on the field. He plays hard and is considered a great teammate and mentor by his fellow teammates.

LOL -- a bunch of posts trying to defend why Mevis is a team player by explaining why it's OK for him to not be one . . .

I don't really care if he's selfish or not.

I just want to ship him off to the highest bidder.

Fixing this dogsh*t of an offense is more important to me than bragging about having the best CB in the league.

If he didn't play well on the field, we wouldn't be discussing his holdouts.

No NFL player should complain about $. Not in this day and age.

He does to the penny.

Except when he strained that hammy because he wasn't conditioned properly thanks to holding out

When did Revis threaten to hold out last season?

If I remember correctly, this was the NYDN and Cimini attempting to create controversy. Revis refused to comment on it because it was bs. That's not him threatening to hold out. He came to camp on time and played balls out until he tore his ACL.
