Denver Broncos, Atlanta Falcons to court Shonn Greene

He'd be a solid RB on a good offensive team. If he's smart he goes to one of the said teams.

This offseason, the Denver Broncos reportedly are in the market for a tailback with size this offseason. The Atlanta Falcons need a power back to replace Michael Turner, who is expected to be a salary-cap casualty with a $6.9 million pay day on the horizon.

"Spies" at the NFL Scouting Combine tell ESPNNewYork.com's Rich Cimini that impending free agent Shonn Greene is expected to draw interest from both clubs next month.

Despite a 2012 season that looks underwhelming on the surface, Greene has been generating some "buzz" at the combine. A closer look reveals that Greene finished in the top 15 among NFL backs in attempts, rushing yards and rushing touchdowns while splitting carries with Bilal Powell in the second half of the season.

With much-publicized cap woes and a new direction on offense, the Jets are closing the books on the Greene era. He'll be taking his "ground and pound" talents to a new city, perhaps with a Super Bowl contender like the Broncos or Falcons.

Greene is a 1000 yard back the last 2 years on a pretty crappy offensive talented team.

If he goes to good offensive team they will be happy to have him. On both teams he will be in a rotation which will help him overall.

Opposing defenses knew the Jets were gonna run and run and run. Despite all the 8 man fronts Greene worked hard and got yardage. Like said above you put him on a good offensive team and he could average 6 yards per carry by getting about 160 carries in a season. If other teams know he's getting the ball time and time again he is less effective. He will be a great pickup for somebody.

+1

Greene is not flashy, pretty one dimensional, and below average at pass catching...still, he can contribute.

Personally id like to have him back merely for his work ethic, but lets keep it real here in the 2013: Greene's worth is diluted because of the position he plays. Its just too easy to find a 3.4 ypc guy these days.

Even on a great offensive team with a great line, Greene will be lucky to average 5 YPC. He doesnt break enough long runs to get his average that high. Plus, Atlanta doesnt have a great O line.

Greene is a below average NFL RB.

I wonder if we could get a 6th round compensatory for him if his contract is large enough. That would be great

Atlanta would be a good fit. Replace Turner as the power back there. Unless we draft a RB, our ground game is going to be dog crap next year. Keeping Greene wouldn't change that, but those that think Powell is anything of substance are mistaken.

Powell is absolutely better than Greene.

Even if they're dead even as runners, just the fact that Powell can actually pass protect puts him on another level.

Greene was the very definition of one dimensional. And the one dimension that he had, he was extremely mediocre at.

The guy is a decent inside runner, that's it.

He can't bounce it outside, he has no second gear, he can't catch the ball out of the backfield, and he can't passblock. Good riddance.

I agree about going into next year with Powell, McKnight and a draft pick. Prefer Stepfan Taylor in the 3rd round, personally. Perfect fit for the WCO.
