OT: (Save) My Mother's Dogs - Jets Insider.com Forums

My mother is dying of a terminal disease and she's no longer able to take care of herself. She has three cats and two dogs and my sisters and I live 200+ miles away.

I was able to find the cats a new home (neighbor across the street) but the dogs are a different story. They're 11 years old from the same litter (sisters) of miniature schnauzers, and no one on the block wants them. My mom refuses to let us relocate them to my sister's home as she wants them with her right until the end. We can't keep taking trips down to Long Island to care for them, so we're at a difficult point unless some of you can help.

It's going to cost $500 each month to get a pet sitter to visit them at the house daily and take care of them. They'll be fed, exercised, walked, washed, etc. with this service that we found. It's the only way to keep them in the house with my mom as is her wish.

We've been going back and forth on this and we've come to the following decision: if we can't raise $500 per month for the 6-8 months my mother is expected to live, we're going to bring them in to be euthanized. There's no other way around it. We've discussed it a million times. If we don't raise the first $500 by midnight, May 1, Pepper and Cindy will be destroyed.

I don't have a picture of them that I can post, but below is a representation of what they look like. Help them. Please.

Sar, didn't you say that you and the Mrs. were wealthy and retired? I should hope you wouldn't make a joke of your mom's health. Nice dogs, though. But tell me where I can send my dog for all that attention and I'll gladly spend the $500 for lil Max.

We are wealthy, not retired, both working hard. We just bought an M convertible and a beach house in Maine so we're strapped for cash in the short term.

We'd do it, but I'm not going to sell one of my Rolexes for the dogs. Just can't. I know that probably makes me shallow....I accept that....but with so many people in here caring so much about pets, my sister thought it might be a good idea to see if a group of fans can help Pepper and Cindy.

I understand my reputation preceeds me, but I am not drunk. Why wouldn't Jets fans help? Especially those who have posted on how much pets mean to them? I think we'll raise the $500 per month that we need. Just you watch.

Well at least I'll get to see plenty of highlights on ESPN when I GTFOOH. Nothing like being there for playoff hockey anyway. Can't wait for monday.

I don't own a watch, but can't see how it's importance can be compared to that of a pet.

I'm sorry to hear about your mom. That's a terrible thing to go through. I know because it happen awhile ago and I lost my mom. You only get one and it hurts a great deal when she is no longer there. hang in there.

How can you say something like that to me in this situation? My mom loves these dogs.....they're like part of the family. She hasn't had a husband for 10+ years and these dogs are like her family for Godsakes.

If you're being serious (not sure with you

) then $500 a month is a rip off. $300 sounds more reasonable (ie. $10/day). Call some other services for a better price that you can afford or go visit some of you Mom's neighbor's and ask them if they can pitch in. I take care of my neighbor's dogs when they go on vacation, and if I was one of your Mom's neighbor's I'd be in a position to help, but I'm not so I can't. Lot's of luck.
