Spurs get UEFA bye

You'll love this one, Deadringer.

Spurs get bye to Uefa Cup last 16

Tottenham have been given a bye into the last 16 of the Uefa Cup, subject to a possible appeal from scheduled opponents Feyenoord.
The Dutch club were kicked out following crowd trouble earlier in the season against French side Nancy.

Feyenoord look certain to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Financial director Onno Jacobs said: "We don't feel we should be punished this way, there's an overall feeling the punishment is not justifiable."

Jacobs added: "We would like to have this ruling revised by a court, based on the facts we do not feel we should be punished.

"We have thought about cutting our losses but the predominant feeling is that the club has been wronged.

"We expect to be able to provide greater clarity at the end of the week, after we have closely studied the reasoning."

A spokesman for the CAS said a tribunal could suspend Uefa's punishment, allowing the game with Spurs to go ahead, or decide there were no grounds to delay the expulsion.

Hopefully we'll get some compensation but other people may think differently

Spurs boss Martin Jol

The spokesman said: "If it's practical, we would aim to have a verdict before the game, which is due to take place on 14 February."

Pending the appeal, Spurs will go through to the next round where they will play either Braga or Parma.

A Uefa statement confirmed: "Tottenham have received a bye into the Uefa Cup round of 16 following the exclusion of Feyenoord."

Uefa's other option was to order Spurs to play Wisla Krakow, who finished behind Feyenoord in the group stage.

Spurs will lose revenue from gate receipts and television money, but will gain prize money for getting closer to this season's final in Glasgow.

Tottenham boss Martin Jol misses out on a trip to his homeland, but had earlier claimed Spurs should receive some compensation for the loss of income

Gotta love them. Even after getting a bye, they're still not happy.

good for sp*rs...they cant win a real title, or even beat an arsenal reserve team in the carling cup, and now they actually have the chance to win the title of "Best 5th place (or lower) team in Europe"...martin jol should look at this as a blessing in disguise, cause i'm sure he'll make more money losing in the round of 16 rather than losing to feynenoord...

but lets face it...you could give sp*rs a bye to the final and spot them a 5 goal lead and they'd find a way to choke...

Shame about Ashley Cole, isn't it?
Turns out he will be able to play later on this season.
