How do you rank Europe's top championships?

Competition-wise not entertainement-wise. For entertainement/excitement I'd put England first, but not as a competition.

1 - Spain
2 - England
3 - Italy (seems harsh typing it )
4 - Germany
5 - France

I don't know enough about other championships to rank them (Portugese, Turkish..)

I agree that's how I would rank them at the moment... allthough you could consider flipping Spain and England. The English have 4 teams left in the CL and I think they'll have at least 3 left for the Quarterfinals. The pace of the premiership carries over well to the CL, imo. Madrid and Barca are solid sides, but I don't know about Sevilla... will they hold up?

I mainly follow England and Italy, but really only know about Madrid and Barca on the Spanish side.

Raoul The Turkish championship is almost non-existant competition wise, it's very similar to the Scottish, Dutch or Portugese championships where you know that at any given season there are only 3 teams capable of winning it all(Galatasaray and the other two ). There was a time in the 70's and 80's where Trabzonspor also won a few championships but that seems over.

In terms of pure competition my list would be:

1- Spain

2- Italy

3- France - Before Lyon went ballistic Le Championnat would have been on the top of my list b/c nowhere else can a defending champion struugle to stay in the division next season (See Nantes a few years back)

4- Germany

5- England

You obviously haven't seen a French championship game in a long time. Besides Lyon, the overall level play is atrocious. It's a national joke. No one watches it anymore.

Lyon has won the past six seasons, which is an accomplishment, but also says A LOT about the competition. It's part of the reason IMO they can't get past the quarters in the CL: they never have to play at that level for the championship.

England at 5????

By "competition" I meant the level/quality of play and players.

I thought you meant the difference of ability between the best and the worst...

In that case my list would be completly different:

1-England

2-Spain

3-Italy

4-Germany

5-Turkey - France - Netherlands

Spanish football is great to watch.

English football has all the money, but I find it boring.

German football is organised and well, German.

Italian football is defensive and corrupt, but I love it.

1) Spain (Get GOL TV)
2) England (Fast, as much aerial play as foot play)
3) Italy (can be tough to watch, that's why Inter or Juve are on Fox every week)
4) France (No longer on in the U.S., and leagues best players graduate to England)
5) Portugal
6) Germany (Robotic; Munchen, can be fun to watch)
7) Scotland
