This election season it seems that many conservative republicans are unhappy with the nomination of John McCain as the presumtive nominee (including myself)... for many true conservatives McCain is just not conservative enough and he slides to the left on many issues... global warming, first amendment, etc.

In the election of 1800 the big-government wing of the Federalist Party had a similar problem... Hamilton and his allies didn't not like the canidacy of John Adams because of his willingness to cross party lines and had this to say on the election:

"If we must have an enemy at the head of the government, let it be one whom we can oppose, and for whom we are not responsible, who will not involve our party in the disgrace of his foolish and bad measures. Under Adams, as under Jefferson, the government will sink. The party in the hands of whose chief it shall sink will sink with it, and the advantage will be all on the side of his adversaries." - Alexander Hamilton

Do you believe that Hamilton is correct in his outlook?

Do you think Hamilton's outlook on the election of 1800 has relevence for todays election?

Would an Obama Presidency (With the economy teetering and his call for more taxation) benefit the Republican party? or is Hamilton completely off base?

Neither Jefferson or Adams were one world government, socialist, me and my wife disresepct our country and military, appeasers. So there is a big difference today.

Somewhat.

Yes.

Obama's 'change' mantra will quickly fall by the wayside after the election as he shows his true colors as a big spending, liberal who panders to the long standing A-list of democrat pals.

Hopefully this wakes up the Conservatives who have let the Republican party become Democrat-like in their fiscal policies that they need to get back to offering a smaller, big goverment alternative.
