Does this mean the multiple Lobsters and Iranian Caviar Ms. Obama reportedly ordered the other day for lunch is fair game now too?
I sure hope not. In a World of Important Issues, this is not one. |

Excellent point. Eating a lobster roll is definitely on par with spending 150 thousand on clothes. BTW, if this is such a non-issue for you, how is it that you're monitoring Obama's wife's diet for slip ups? Is there an RSS feed or something? |

If you wish to think the Obama's are different, that they are really "just normal folks" who don't spend just as much on their appearance (or anything else), be my guest. No law against being naive or brainwashed of course. I tend to always think these threads are laughable. Wealthy Politicians spend alot of money to look good to help get them elected, end of story. Wake me when this has any meaning whatsoever. |

Sure. No disagreement. And I realize that you don't harbor any illusions of Palin being any better. So to you, understandably, it's a "who cares?" thread. But there are some people out there who truly do think that Palin is a different sort a politician--that she's above overspending and using her position to feather her own nest. You and I know better. This thread is for them. |

$150,000 for two months of clothing. That's more than most people spend on clothes in their whole lives. Quite the welcome into the Washington Elite. I'd say she's a full-fledged celebrity now. :P

Hartmarx suits Obama
Meanwhile, Obama is shopping at Syms.
Apparantly, Barack is not an "educated consumer". Hartmarx suits Obama Presidential nominee Barack Obama and wife Michelle show off Chicago-made fashions August 28, 2008 BY SANDRA GUY sguy@suntimes.com Presidential nominee Barack Obama and wife Michelle are showing off Chicago-made fashions in their most important appearances on stage at the Democratic National Convention. Thursday night, when Obama will accept the presidential nomination, he will wear a navy blue, worsted wool two-button suit that Hartmarx custom made just for him. Hartmarx is a 121-year-old Chicago-based manufacturer of high-end men's suits. Obama, who wears a 40 long with a 33-inch waist, has worn Hart Schaffner Marx suits in the past but always off the rack, said an inside source. He favors the Gold Trumpeter collection. This time, he made appointments with Hartmarx tailors for his nomination-night suit. About tonight's special suit: The fabric is 97 percent merino wool and 3 percent cashmere. The pants are pleated and have an inch and a quarter cuff. A similar suit off the rack would retail for about $1,500. Hartmarx is the largest U.S. tailored clothing business and makes Hart Schaffner Marx suits at a factory in Des Plaines. Hartmarx boasts as its claim to fame being the first to use standard pricing, the first to sell clothes from swatches of cloth, and in 1936, making the first zippered pants, according to the company's Web site. Hartmarx CEO Homi Patel said: "We don't talk about this because we've been making suits for presidents, vice presidents and senators for more than 100 years. The reason we continue making them is because we don't talk about it." On Monday night, Michelle impressed fashionistas during her keynote speech by wearing a fitted turquoise blue dress with three-quarter-length sleeves and a brooch-like flower prominently displayed in the front, designed by Chicago's Maria Pinto. Pinto, who opened her first retail boutique in the West Loop on Aug. 12, is a favorite of Michelle Obama's, and designed a purple dress that Michelle Obama wore with a black Azzedine Alaia belt on the night Sen. Obama won the Democratic nomination. http://www.suntimes.com/news/politics/obama/1131869,CST-NWS-fashion28WEB.article |

Great post. Obama is horrible to support a local clothing store. Who paid for his suit?

Wow. Really? Didn't every conservative get up in arms about Edwards $400 haircut. Now you are criticizing Obama for spending money raised on the campaign trail? That's absurd |

I don't get it. Are you saying he shouldn't be spending that much money even though people have given it to him with the understanding that he would? Or are you saying that 150k isn't really that much money? |

It's all relative. She spent 150K for two months of clothes and Obama spends 5 million per day. That's all I was saying. I didn't say anything judgemental -- just stating facts. |

Obama is spending the least money of any candidate ever.
He's so frugal. |
